THIS DAY IN HISTORY

April 3

1945 - The USSR renounced the Russo-Japanese Non-Aggression Pact.

The U.S. didn't need Russia's help in Japan, and asking for it was FDR's biggest mistake at Yalta...The war in Europe was all but over, but Uncle Joe was more than happy to jump in on the Asian spoils.  Spoils he soon took advantage of in China, Korea, and much of Southeast Asia.

This is an event which continues to plague peace and freedom in East Asia long after the fall of the USSR.

1865 - Union forces occupied the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia:  U.S. Civil War.

The end was near, but there were still six more bloody days of fighting.

1922 - Joseph Stalin was named Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the CPUSSR.

Lenin died two years later and the 'Man of Steel' found this appointment to be a steppingstone to succeeding his ‘friend’ (Lenin)...And stepping on the throat of his ‘enemy’:  Trotzky.

1936 - Bruno Hauptmann was electrocuted for the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby.

Execution should be the standard sentence for anyone who murders, except in self defense...And the sentence should be carried out in a short enough time frame for it to have real-time meaning.

1941 - A coup installed a pro-Nazi Arab government in Iraq:  WWII.

This is a natural relationship, which has many similarities to this day...Nazism and Fundamentalist Islam. IE: Islamo-Fascism.

1948 - President Truman signed the 'Economic Cooperation Act' which implemented the Marshall Plan.

The amount of good done with this $5-billion is immeasurable...And many of those who received it seem all too willing to forget it ever happened.

Bunch of ingrates.

1992 - President GHW Bush said members of Congress should shorten their annual sessions and retire after 12-years, calling for changes in "a failed status quo." Democratic leaders accused Bush of scapegoating.'

Since when is common sense mistaken for 'scapegoating?'

I don’t want Republican congressmen serving virtual life-terms any more than Democrats...It isn’t good for the nation, because it stifles the influx of new blood and ideas in the legislative body.  And it leads to cronyism and other abuses of power.
