1291 - Muslims attacked Acre in the tiny Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, beginning the end of the history of the Crusader States in the East.
The Christian loss of Jerusalem was inevitable, because the logistics and numerical disadvantages they faced were impossible...Unfortunately, although the Muslim encroachment on the Western world was halted by the Crusaders it has never been completely stopped - not even to this day.
With this information ask yourself a question: How improbable is it that a small group of people would be able to conquer the Holy Land, and hold it for the past 70 years? Something the Crusaders found nearly impossible...Of course these people are the Israelis. Sadly, I'm quite certain they face the ultimate fate of the Crusaders.
2348 B.C. (traditional date) - Noah's Ark landed on Mt. Ararat.
Did it happen? Who knows? And who cares. It’s a great tradition and one which doesn’t have to be ‘real’ to be important.
Also, for all we know it was real! There's more than enough archaeological evidence to show a great flood in the 'then known world' could have happened...And if you don't want to take stock in the story of the Old Testament give the Epic of Gilgamesh a shot - which was written well over 1,500 years before the Old Testament.
1208 (traditional date) - Quetzalcoatl died.
The importance of Quetzalcoatl was his return, not his death...And he returned in the form of the Spaniards in 1519.
Of course this isn’t true, but truth is relative, and the Aztecs believed it was. So in reality Cortes and his small band of invaders were the reincarnation of the legendary Quetzalcoatl...And the rest is history.
1242 - Alexander Nevsky of Novgorod defeated the Teutonic Knights.
Nevsky is one of Russia’s greatest heroes, and is credited with saving Russia from Western domination...He's also a national saint, with a Russian Orthodox feast day on September 21.
His legend is so great even the Communists knew better than to mess with the legacy of this hero - and that says a lot.
1603 - James VI and I, King of England and Scotland, left Edinburgh for London.
The Scots look at this event as the Scottish conquest of England...It's ironic how the unification of the British island took place.
1792 - George Washington cast the first presidential veto, rejecting a congressional measure for apportioning representatives among the states.
It’s too bad The Great Man didn’t mandate the presidential veto to be a more regular event.
1869 - Daniel Bakeman, last surviving soldier of the Revolutionary War, died.

The WWII crowd may be the 'Greatest Generation,' but there would be no such thing without this 'Patriot’s Generation.'

Today the ACLU and DNC would be championing them as ‘freedom fighters,’ or some other line of crap.

British politics lost a legend.
Churchill was the giant figure in the 'Free World' during the 20th Century, and his absence has been felt throughout the world ever since.
For those wondering: FDR was a step below Churchill...And in the 'Un-Free World,' Stalin, Hitler, Lenin and Mao were their peers in worldwide importance during this awful century.

38,387 points for his career! What an amazing player...One of the best ever: 5 time NBA MVP, 6 time NBA Champion.
In an age of dominant 1's, 2's and 3's it's hard to imagine another 5 like Jabbar coming along...But that's always the perception.
