March 5 (A Triple)

1946 - The 'Iron Curtain Speech': Winston Churchill delivered his famous speech at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.

"From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron Curtain has descended across the Continent. Behind that line lie all the capitals of the ancient states of Central and Eastern Europe. Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Sofia, all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in...the Soviet sphere."

Churchill was the greatest leader in the free world during the 20th Century, and his evaluation of Soviet Communism was right on target...Just as he had been regarding Nazism in the 1930's.

1953 - After 29-years in power, Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin died at the age of 73.

In the entire history of the world, Stalin stands side by side with any of the worst and most destructive human beings...In his 12-year period of raising Hell, Hitler may have been worse, but Stalin was in power 17-years longer than Hitler, which allowed him to catch up and pass the German madman in the total number of lives ruined or ended.  Though he fell short of Mao's final number - and probably Genghis Khan's as well.

Here's how Stalin spent his last moments:

"For the last twelve hours the lack of oxygen became acute. His face and lips blackened as he suffered slow strangulation. The death agony was terrible. He literally choked to death as we watched. At what seemed to be the very last moment, he opened his eyes and cast a glance over everyone in the room. In other words, the Man of Steel exited the world just as he lived in it...Here's hoping he suffered mightily in death, and continues to do so in Hell.

2004 - Libya acknowledged stockpiling 44,000 pounds of mustard gas and disclosed the location of a production plant in a declaration submitted to the world's chemical weapons watchdog.

WOW!! This was an unforeseen, AND BARELY REPORTED, benefit of the Iraq War...It was also a scary awakening to the reality of the Middle East: If Libya had such weapons, what do the big players have?

The world also has to notice it wasn't long until the U.S. took out Gaddafi after he gave up his toys - It's debatable if we would have if he hadn't...Something every dictator with such weapons will keep in mind when we ask them to give them up:  North Korea, Iran, etc.

1616 - The Roman Catholic Church, through Cardinal Robert Bellarmine, declared Copernicanism a “false and erroneous” doctrine. As a result, Nicolaus Copernicus’ 'de Revolutionibus' was placed on the Index of Forbidden Books by the Roman Catholic Church.

He couldn’t prove his theories at the time, but Copernican ideas eventually won out on this argument...Years after his death.

1770 - The Boston Massacre: British soldiers, who had been taunted by a crowd of American colonists, opened fire killing five people.

In terms of bloodshed the 'massacre' has been over-hyped, but in terms of propaganda value for what was becoming a revolutionary cause it was a tremendous gift.

1933 - President Franklin Roosevelt ordered a four-day bank holiday in order to stop large amounts of money from being withdrawn from the banks.

Ever wonder why FDIC banks are never closed for four consecutive days? Here is your reason...I like FDR as a ‘war president,’ but his domestic plans were disastrous, and many were unconstitutional.

1933 - In German parliamentary elections, the Nazi Party won 44% of the vote, enabling it to join with the Nationalists to gain a slender majority in the Reichstag.

It is important to remember the Nazis took power through the ballot-box...Needless to say, this was the last 'free election' the Germans had for awhile.

Under the wrong circumstances it could happen in any country...Even in the U.S.

1998 - NASA officials announced the Lunar Prospector probe found the presence of water on the moon at the north and south poles. As much as 100 million tons of water was estimated. They estimated the water frozen in the loose soil of the moon might support a lunar base and a human colony.

The Moon is the next step in 'America’s Manifest Destiny'...No other country has ever been there, and none will have the audacity and ability to colonize it either.

1999 - In China, the annual two week plenary session was scheduled to amend the Constitution. The preamble mentioned the goal of developing a "socialist market economy" and acknowledged the late Deng Xiaoping. Revisions were planned to protect private enterprise and recognize multiple forms of ownership.

This was a giant leap towards capitalism, but China is a long way from having a free-market economy...If they ever allow free markets the world will see the establishment of an economic giant, capable of challenging the U.S. in the global economy - not just in GDP, but in individual economic wealth as well.

That's a big 'if,' though.

2000 - A Virginia subsidiary of PPL Therapeutics of Edinburgh, Scotland, the company that cloned Dolly the sheep, produced the first cloned pigs.

Congratulations! The Frankenstinians are extremely brilliant, and equally immoral and dangerous.

2001 - Muslim pilgrims began the stoning of the three pillars symbolizing the devil as part of the annual hajj to Mecca. 35 people suffocated to death during the stoning of the devil ritual.

Nice religion...If it only happened this particular year it would be an accident, but it happens every year.

February 10

1258 - Huegu (Hulega Khan), Mongol leader and grandson of Genghis Khan, seized Baghdad following a four day assault. Mongol invaders from Central Asia took over Baghdad and ended the Abbasid-Seljuk Empire. Some 200,000-800,000 people were killed and looting lasted 17 days.

1. There’s a huge difference between 200,000 and 800,000 people.

2. Even the democidal butchers of the 20th Century (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, etc) would be envious of that many executions in a 17-day span...Especially considering they pulled it off without modern methods of killing.

3. The Abbasid's were the last of the Arab rulers in the Middle east until the end of WWII.

1763 - The Treaty of Paris ended the French-Indian War.  France ceded Canada, and all its territories in North America east of the Mississippi River to England.

Too bad the Brits didn’t kick all the Frenchies out of Canada when they took it over.

1933 - Adolph Hitler proclaimed the end of Marxism.

In a twist of fate, it was the Marxist-Leninist-Stalinists who put the final dagger in Hitlerism.

1942 - The first World War II Medal of Honor was awarded posthumously to 2nd Lt. Alexander Ramsey for his heroism at the Battle of Bataan.

Ramsey is just one of the hundreds of thousands of heroes from WWII...It’s hard to imagine what the world would have been like without them, but it's possible the Nazi and Japanese Empires might still be haunting the world.

2005 - North Korea announced for the first time it has nuclear arms and rejected moves to restart disarmament talks anytime soon, saying it needs the weapons as protection against an increasingly hostile United States.

February 1

1790 - The U.S. Supreme Court convened in New York City for its first session.

This is one of the greatest judicial bodies in the history of the world, and one which will continue to be so as long as it remembers its job is to ensure the constitutionality of items coming from the Executive and Legislative Branches - including at the lower levels in the states.

The problem is when the Supremes determine they need to replace the duties of the President and Congress - acting as 'super legislators'...The other problem is the President and Congress have too often ceded their responsibilities to the Supremes in order to avoid having to make politically difficult decisions.

"Judges and justices are servants of the law, not the other way around. Judges are like umpires. Umpires don't make the rules; they apply them. The role of an umpire and a judge is critical. They make sure everybody plays by the rules. But it is a limited role." - Chief Justice John Roberts

1327 - Edward III was crowned King of England.

Edward was only a teenage boy at the time - the country was effectively ruled by his mother Isabella and her lover Roger - but he proved more than up to the task of ruling the country when he came of age...Edward was one of England's greatest kings, ruling for over 50 years, and establishing the island nation as one of Europe's great powers.

1669 - French king Louis XIV limited freedom of religion.

1918 - Russia adopted the Gregorian Calendar.

This unit was awesome, and proved to America they weren’t Japanese or hyphenated Americans (Japanese-Americans)...They were Americans first.

We should offer the same kind of unit to fight in the War on Terror. I’m not as certain this would end as well, however.

1951 - The U.N. condemned China as an aggressor in the Korean War.

Lotta good that did.  Especially since the only ones who cower over U.N. declarations are the pansies in the West.

1958 - Egypt and Syria announced plans to merge into the United Arab Republic.

Now that would be a power-player in the Middle East.  But it was destined to failure...Either on its own, or at the hands of the Israelis, who could never have allowed it to work out.

2003 - Space Shuttle Columbia and its seven person crew perished upon re-entry from their 16-day mission.

This was a terrible event, but it's amazing it hasn’t happened more often...Man was not made to leave Earth, and every time we jump off this ball we run the risk of such accidents.

That said, we must continue.

January 15

1929 - The U.S. Senate ratified the Kellogg-Briand Pact.

A group of 62 nations agreed to outlaw war, which was incredibly successful...What a pathetic JOKE!

1931: Japan invaded Manchuria.

1935: Italy invaded Ethiopia.

1936: The Spanish Civil War began...Many of Europe's players got involved as a tune-up for WWII.

1937: Japan invaded China.

1938: Germany took Austria (peacefully, hahaha), as well as the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia (peacefully as well...Thanks Nev!).

1939: Germany and the U.S.S.R. invaded Poland - then Western Europe...Europe went to war - sort of.

1939: The U.S.S.R. invaded Finland.

1941: Italy invaded Greece.

1941: Germany invaded the U.S.S.R...The European war became total.

1941: Japan attacked the U.S. at Pearl Harbor...The Pacific was now aflame.

I could do this all day, over the entire globe - FOR ALL OF HUMAN HISTORY.

The sad reality is fighting and war are part of the human condition. Always have been, always will be.

Promises of peace are a joke...There is only one way to have peace, and that is to be strong enough to thoroughly destroy your enemies, and having the will to use such force as needed.

Ultimate strength, and the willingness to use it is the only deterrence to those who threaten peace - which is just about everyone.

588 B.C. - Babylonian king Nebuchadrezzar II began a siege against Jerusalem.

The event isn't great, but the fact it is in the ancient period and is recorded is great...These kind of events are so rare they can't be taken for granted.

1535 - Henry VIII declared himself head of the English Church.

Although he was a buffoon, Henry proved to be the third most important person in the Reformation period, after Luther and Charles V...His decision to leave the Catholic Church forever separated England from the Continent, and led it down a path of greatness only matched by the Romans and Americans in the Western World.

1559 - England's Queen Elizabeth I was crowned in Westminster Abbey.

Elizabeth was one of England's greatest monarchs, and one of the most important women in the history of the world.

1870 - The Democrat Party was represented as a donkey in a cartoon by Thomas Nast in Harper's Weekly.

The Donkey was created as a representation of the Democrats kicking around the Republicans...That said, the Democrats ended up with the perfect character representing its party and ideas: The Jackass.

1919 - Peasants in Central Russia rose against the Bolsheviks.

Those who don't understand the Russian Revolution may think the Russian Communists were supposed to be for the 'peasants,' but Lenin had no intention of following Marx's ideas...Instead he tilted towards the city workers and intelligentsia.

The entire communist movement was a joke from the beginning, but Lenin and the Ruskies bastardized it to a point of simply being a 'Political Philosophy from Hell.'

1945 - The Soviet Red Army liberated the Krakow-Plaszow Concentration Camp:  WWII.

1951 - The U.S. Supreme Court curbed freedom of speech, ruling "clear and present danger" of incitement to riot was cause for arrest.

This took a ruling by the Supremes???? I guess 'common sense' has never been common.

1989 - NATO, the Warsaw Pact and twelve other European countries adopted a human rights and security agreement in Vienna, Austria.

2004 - Amnesty International said more than 400 prisoners had been hanged since 1991 in Singapore, mostly for drug offenses.

Anytime you see 'Amnesty International' you know it is going to be a line of B.S...And this one is right up to par.

Singapore should be proud of itself for executing scumbags with drug offenses...We'd be much better off here in the U.S. if we did likewise. Instead we go limp on the issue, and have chosen to accept an enormous drug problem, along with all the problems drugs contribute to.

January 12 (A Double)

1896 - H.L. Smith took the first X-ray photograph - a hand with a bullet in it.

This was a huge development in the history of medicine..And one which extended well past medicine. For better and for worse.

1943 - Soviet forces penetrated the siege of Leningrad, creating a breach in German lines, which had encircled the city for a year and a half. This breach allowed more supplies to come in along Lake Ladoga, the lifeline of the Leningrad resistance:  WWII.

The Battle of Leningrad is one of the greatest battles in world history, and should be read by all...I recommend 'The 900 Days,' by Harrison Salisbury.

The Russians lost approximately one million lives in almost 900-days; around 1,000 per day for 2 1/2 years...As a point of reference, imagine the effect a 9/11/01 or Pearl Harbor every 2-3 days for almost three years would have on America.

The 'City of Lenin,' (or 'Peter' for those who are true historians) much like Stalingrad, could not fall to the Germans, and Hitler was so maniacal he insisted on conquering it, when bludgeoning, isolating and bypassing the city made much more strategic sense.

Incredibly, 'The Juice' got away with murder...Equally incredible, justice was finally served when he was put in prison for such a stupid act as trying to steal his own stolen football paraphernalia.

1998 - Nineteen European nations signed a treaty in Paris opposing human cloning.

Sure...We’ll see how long the Mengelian-wannabes are held at bay on this one.

1998 - Germany said it agreed to establish a $110 million fund to compensate Jewish victims of the Nazis in eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Payments from the fund would be released starting in 1999 over a period of four years, benefiting an estimated 17,000 to 20,000 victims.

So the other 9-10 million were ‘freebies’? I guess this makes everything alright, though, for the 17,000.

2010 - A massive earthquake struck Haiti.

200,000-300,000 Haitians were killed as a result of this event...As a point of reference, the U.S. had around 400,000 deaths in all of WWII.

1926 - Abdul-Aziz ibn Saud established the Kingdom of Hejaz - later renamed Saudi Arabia.

A country was created out of the desert wasteland...What a cruel irony their only valuable resource is the most important resource on Earth:  Oil.

And the world’s most irresponsible and lunatic people happen to control a large portion of the world's share of it.

1815 - The Battle of New Orleans:  War of 1812.  U.S. forces, led by General Andrew Jackson defeated the British in the last battle of the war.

The war ‘officially’ ended on December 24, 1814, but news of the peace treaty hadn’t reached the South yet...That's a good story, but not reality.

The truth is the Brits were hoping for a victory in New Orleans to use as a way of restarting the war, or at the very least to use as a bargaining tool against the U.S. in peace negotiations.

Instead the Brits got whooped, and it was beautiful for Jackson to slap the Brits around to the tune of 2,044 British casualties to only 71 for the U.S. troops...It was the last time the Brits returned to the U.S. with bad intentions.

1871 - Prussian troops began bombarding Paris:  Franco-Prussian War.

This became a reoccurring theme for the next 70-years between the Germans and French...Amazingly, they are friends now, but sooner or later the French will be Germany’s whipping-boy again.

1918 - President Wilson outlined his 'Fourteen Points for Peace':  World War I.

It all sounded nice, his idealistic plan for a world forever free from conflict, but the reality was (and always will be) the world isn’t a pretty place...The League of Nations was created out of Wilson’s Utopian pipe-dream, but the U.S. didn’t even join it, and WWII was less than 25-years away.

1954 - President Dwight Eisenhower proposed stripping convicted communists of their U.S. citizenship.

This was a move which would have been completely against the First Amendment, and never made it past the Supreme Court...He could have done more to destroy communism in America had he done more to destroy it internationally.

1964 - President Lyndon Johnson declared a 'War on Poverty.'

In order to crush poverty he increased welfare, which increased the 'political indentured servitude' of America’s poor and minorities by tying them to the Democrat Party...All along knowing these people would never be able to pull themselves out of their poor state as long as the Democrat Party was around to 'help keep them down.'

I have to admit it has been the greatest political strategy in American history, even though it's also been one of the most destructive social experiments in that same history.

1997 - The state of Arkansas put three men to death in the second triple execution since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976.

Gotta love a ‘triple’...It's good anytime a criminal scumbag is removed from this world. It's even better when three go at a time.

1998 - 'Unabomber' suspect Theodore Kaczynski tried to commit suicide just hours before stunning a packed courtroom by saying he wanted to be his own lawyer and argue he was sane. He appeared in court with a red mark on his neck and missing his undershorts, leading police to conclude he attempted to kill himself in his cell at the Sacramento County Jail. He was placed under security surveillance.

On the next day, they should have tossed a rope in his cell...Instead the state of California will be paying to incarcerate this piece of garbage for the rest of his life. What a sad joke.

1998:  World Trade Center bomber Rahmzi Ahmed Yousef was sentenced to life in prison.

Six people died and over a thousand were injured, yet this terrorist was given a life sentence instead of being executed.  Like Kaczynski, this case is a sad joke.

2002 – The 'No Child Left Behind Act,' was signed into law by President Bush.

Another case of 'Bad if (R) and Good if (D)'...Also, don't forget, this was a 'bi-partisan' bill, co-authored by two Republicans and two Democrats (one being Ted Kennedy).

The media and the Left love to snipe at this act, but if the same bill had been passed under Bill Clinton or Obama they’d be saying it is a great law.

2002 - The Bush administration sent a secret report to Congress, the 'Nuclear Posture Review,' which said the Pentagon needed to be prepared to use nuclear weapons against seven nations: China, Russia, Iraq, North Korea, Syria, Iran, and Libya.

The press and Congressional Democrats went nuts over this report...But it's a matter of National Defense, which should have been done long before this date.

The president’s first priority is protecting the nation. Neglecting to acknowledge our enemies, and finding ways to destroy them, would be a complete dereliction of duty...Something Democrats have become expert at.

1492- Muhammad XI, leader of the last Arab/Moor stronghold in Granada, Spain, surrendered to Spanish forces loyal to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

Muslim Moors held Spain for around 780-years before the Spanish Reconquista was complete. The Christian Spanish have held it for around 500-years, and the Muslim Reconquista is just beginning...It's debatable if the Christians - though its almost comical to call any European country 'Christian' anymore - will be able to hold off the Muslims long enough to match their 780-year reign.

Personally, I doubt if they can...If nothing else they'll be conquered through moronic immigration policies, which will lead to the Christian population being out-bred by the Islamic.

1570 - Russian Czar Ivan the Terrible began marching on Novgorod.

Ivan was most definitely 'terrible', for his own people and his neighbors, but he was instrumental in strengthening and building the Russian nation...Which is why he is one of the most respected and approved of Russian rulers in history - by the Russian people.  A fact, which is true for most of the 'great' Russian rulers - including in our time.

1776 - George Washington designed the first U.S. Flag with thirteen red and white stripes and a Union Jack in the corner:  American Revolutionary War.

Most will wonder why he put the British 'Jack' on the flag, but it's important to remember the colonies hadn't declared independence from England at this time - and many still held out hope of avoiding doing so.

1872 - Brigham Young, leader of the Mormon Church, was arrested on a charge of bigamy. He had 25 wives.

Here's betting bigamy/polygamy, incest and pedophilia become the next battle in the redefinition of marriage.  And those who support multiple marriages will take the same path as those who support gay marriage:  'Who is to stand in the way of consenting adults in love?'

1882 - Standard Oil was organized as a trust to avoid anti-monopoly laws.

Interestingly, this same 'trust' was eventually broken up under anti-trust laws designed to break up monopolies.

1905 - After a six-month siege, Russia surrendered Port Arthur to the Japanese.

The Japanese Navy destroyed the Russian Far East and Baltic Fleets, setting itself up for a 40-year run as one of the world's great military nations...An accomplishment of major significance; especially considering Japan is such a small nation with almost no natural resources - outside of its loyal and brilliant people.

1954 - Senator Joseph McCarthy was condemned by Congress, and later censured by the Senate.

McCarthy went over the top - particularly in attacking the Army - but it's not surprising many of his claims proved to be true about Communist infiltration of the government and Hollywood.

1997 - California's law against smoking in public places, passed in 1995, was extended to bars. Reports from the first day in effect was the law was widely ignored.

I'm not a smoker, and generally prefer not being in places where smokers are, but I can't be the only one who finds it bizarre that California fights smoking tobacco so hard yet finds ways to support smoking marijuana.

2001 - President Bill Clinton met with Yasser Arafat and coaxed him to curb Middle East violence.

These two should always be listed together for their efforts at ending the Jihadist insanity in the Middle East.  In other words: They should be linked as absolute frauds and failures when it comes to Middle East peace.

December 14

1967 - DNA was created in a test tube.

Washington is much more than the 'Father of Our Country', he's the 'Greatest American'...There is no way there would be a United States without Washington, which is why he must forever be known as the 'Indispensable Man.'

1937 - Japanese troops conquered and plundered Nanking:  WWII.

Most are ignorant to the fact WWII began in 1937 with the invasion of China by Japan...The Rape of Nanking is a horrible story, and one which must be understood to fully acknowledge the brutality of the Imperial Japanese - who were every bit as bad as their Nazi allies.

Here's a number to put the Japanese in WWII in perspective:  They killed around 300,000 Chinese in Nanking alone.  The U.S. lost around 400,000 in the entire war.

1939 - The Soviet Union was dropped from the League of Nations:  WWII.

Less than ten years later the Soviet Union was added to the United Nations...Same country (with much more territory and many more enslaved people), and the same Joseph Stalin.

1946 - The United Nations General Assembly voted to establish the U.N. headquarters in New York City. It also, adopted a disarmament resolution prohibiting atomic bombs.

1994 - Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin received the Nobel Peace Prize, pledging to pursue their mission of healing the anguished Middle East.

Arafat received a 'Peace Prize?' This has to be the ultimate proof the Nobel Peace Prize is an absolute joke...Well, that and Obama getting one before doing anything - including setting the Middle East on fire.

1520 - German reformer Martin Luther publicly burned Pope Leo X's bull, 'Exsurge Domine,' which demanded Luther recant his 'protestant' heresies, including that of justification by faith alone rather than through purchased indulgences or other papal favors.

Luther put his life on the line, and his ‘afterlife’...Remember, according to Church doctrine he couldn’t go to Heaven without receiving his ‘Last Rites,’ and if excommunicated he could not receive such ‘Rites.’

This was a huge deal in the 16th Century, yet Luther stood his ground.

The Church brought this problem on itself, through the mess of the Papacy during the 14th-16th Centuries, and the Protestant Reformation was probably the best thing that could have ever happened to the Roman Church.

1864 - Union General William T. Sherman completed his 'March to the Sea' when he arrived in front of Savannah, Georgia:  U.S. Civil War.

He ‘arrived,’ but it took a 12-day siege before Sherman was able to invest Savannah...Which made a very nice Christmas president for President Lincoln.

1869 - Women's suffrage (right to vote) was granted in the Wyoming Territory...The first in the U.S.

The U.S. isn’t a perfect nation, and it’s history is filled with issues which should have been made right from the start, but weren’t...This is one.

What's great about the U.S., though, is the fact we have a system in place which allows us to eventually get it right.

Amazingly, nationwide women’s suffrage had to wait another 50-years.

1898 - Spain signed the Peace of Paris Treaty officially ending the Spanish-American War. It gave Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines to the United States.

Isolation and the United States ceased to by synonymous, as America claimed its first piece of the ‘global pie.’

1948 - The U.N. General Assembly adopted its Universal Declaration on Human Rights.

What a dumb ass, Utopian ideal...This same group has defended the right to exist for such ‘Human Rights Sponsors’ as Joseph Stalin, Pol Pot, Castro, Mao, etc.

1949 - 150,000 French troops massed at the border in Vietnam to prevent a Chinese invasion.

Can you imagined if the Chinese called their bluff, and invaded? The world would have seen one of two events occur:

1. The French participating in the world’s largest 'Sit Down Demonstration.'

2. A massive slaughter of Frenchies on the battlefield.

Knowing the Chinese as I think I do, they'd have massacred them if #1 occurred, too.

2006 - The oil-rich Arab states on the Persian Gulf said they would consider starting a joint nuclear program for peaceful purposes. The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council included Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

Another of the many ugly realities of allowing Iran to obtain atomic power...For peaceful or belligerent uses.

And who knows how long the six states listed above will remain 'peaceful' as well? It's a massive stretch to label Saudi Arabia as 'peaceful' at this time, let alone any time in the future.

December 8 (A Double)

1941 - The day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Congress granted President Roosevelt a declaration of war against Japan:  WWII.

Historians often speak of Stalingrad, Midway or El Alamein as the ‘turning-points in WWII,’ but the real turning-point was the day the U.S. entered the war...From this day on, the Germans and Japanese ceased to control their own destiny, which is why it's a shame we waited so long.
 
1991 - Russia, Byelorussia and Ukraine declared the Soviet national government dead, forging a new alliance to be known as the Commonwealth of Independent States. Boris Yeltsin, Ukrainian President Leonid Kravchuk, and Belarus President Stanislav Shuskevich met in a hunting lodge to proclaim the Soviet Union null and void and to form a loose Commonwealth of Independent States.

WOW!!!! The fall of the USSR...The CIS wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it was infinitely better than the Soviet Hell State.

1854 - Pope Pius IX defined the dogma of the 'Immaculate Conception' in his apostolic letter, 'Ineffabilis Deus.' It asserted that by a singular privilege and grace granted by God, Mary was freed from original sin "in the first instant of conception."

1948 - Jordan annexed Arabic Palestine; the old city of East Jerusalem came under Jordanian control until 1968. Transjordan was given to a client Arab family, the Hashemites (led by King Hussein’s grandfather), and was run out of Mecca by the Saudis.

So, the next time you hear anyone speak of the Palestinians as a ‘people without a homeland,’ tell them they are absolutely correct. And the Palestinians have their Arab brothers to blame for it.

Israel shouldn't give up any land for the creation of a Palestinian state. Jordan (or Saudi Arabia, or Egypt, or...) should simply allow the Palestinians to enter their country or give up some of their land for the creation of an independent Palestinian state...Of course that won't happen, and they'll just keep blaming Israel.

1987 - The 'Intifada' (Arabic for uprising) by Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied territories began.

And it hasn’t ended...In fact it has spread, and will continue to get worse.

At this point in history this is no where near as important as the other two events (1941 and 1991), but it's my opinion this will eventually lead to the same significance, because of its influence on the rest of the Muslim world. Particularly the Global Jihadist fools...I hope I am wrong.

1987 - President Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed the INF Treaty, which provided for the dismantling of all U.S. and Soviet missiles with ranges of 300 to 3400 miles.

I’m sure neither party upheld their end in this deal...And they shouldn’t have.

1993 - President Clinton signed the North American Free Trade Agreement, which went into effect at the start of 1994.

The significance of this event is much like the 'Intifada,' because of the terrible long-term effects which will develop out of it in the future...Once again, I hope I am wrong.

1997 - At the U.N. conference on Global Warming in Kyoto, Japan, U.S. Vice President Al Gore signaled a willingness on the part of the U.S. to compromise and perhaps raise the amount of greenhouse gases it is willing to cut.

During the Clinton administration, the U.S. Senate (controlled by Democrats) refused to support the Kyoto Protocols, and President Bush absolutely refused to take part in such madness...Thankfully, our current president isn't likely to get involved with such madness, either.

2001 - John Walker Lindh, a Taliban soldier from Marin County, Ca., was held at Camp Rhino near Kandahar as a battlefield detainee. He was captured a week earlier following the prison revolt at Mazar-e-Sharif.

The scary part is he's only one of many...The 'Enemy Within' (M.S.) are everywhere, in and outside the U.S., waiting for their marching orders.

As with every lasting country in history, there will be another civil war in the U.S. eventually, and when this day comes these scumbags will have their day of reckoning.

2002 - Iraq's massive dossier detailing its chemical, biological and nuclear programs arrived in New York; the U.N. Security Council agreed to give full copies to the United States and the four other permanent council members (Britain, France, Russia and China).

So Iraq really did have a WMD program? I would swear the stiffs on TV said they didn’t.

2003 - Russian military documents confirmed that dozens of rockets outfitted with dirty bombs appeared to be missing from the military airport at Tiraspol, capital of Trans-Dniester.

Hmmmm. I wonder which radical group is holding onto these babies? We will surely find out sooner or later...Hopefully our troops in the field can capture them instead of finding then when used against the people of N.Y. City or L.A.

December 7

1941 - Japan launched an aerial attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, home base of the U.S. Pacific fleet. They also attacked the Philippines, the International Settlement at Shanghai, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Long aware a Japanese surprise attack on the naval base at Pearl Harbor could precede war, U.S. authorities were still woefully unprepared when 363 Japanese fighters, dive-bombers and torpedo planes sunk or damaged eight battleships and three light cruisers, destroyed 188 planes and killed 2,400 men in just over two hours. The Battleship Arizona lost 1,177 men. An estimated 900 were entombed in the sunken ship. The U.S. lost [18] 19 ships, 140 aircraft and 2,300 [2,338] lives. In all 2,403 people were killed and 1,178 were wounded; 187 planes were destroyed and 159 damaged.

The Japanese lost 29 planes and 5 midget submarines.

Truly a “date which will live in infamy."

The U.S. had been spared from invasion for almost 130-years (War of 1812, Britain), but the oceans couldn't protect Hawaii.

Japan had no chance of conquering the U.S., but this was its hoped-for-chance to knock America out of WWII. Admiral Yamamoto knew this was a necessity, but he missed the opportunity since the Pacific Carrier Fleet was out to sea (Was it Providence? Was it FDR's plan?)...Either way, the U.S. Navy was crippled, but wasn’t finished off, and the Japanese felt the wrath of the American created Hell-storm for the next four years.

Never forget, the Japanese brought every WWII Japanese death on themselves...Do not pity them for the 'Fire Raids,' and do not pity them for the atomic blasts. Bad things happen to bad people, and the Japanese were every bit as bad as their Nazi allies.

43 B.C. – Marcus Tullius Cicero was assassinated by Marc Antony’s agents, who cut off his head and right hand.

749 - Abu Abbas was declared Caliph, the first Abbasid caliph. His dynasty ruled the Muslim world until 1258.

The Abbasid's were an incredibly powerful force, and did much to spread Islam...Also, it isn’t even debatable that the Muslims of this time were hundreds of years ahead of their European counterparts in the advancement of their civilization.

As a result, it didn't take long for them to conquer much of what had previously been considered parts of the Western/Christian world - an area currently known as the Middle East.

1340 - The Battle of Salado: The last Moorish invasion of Spain was driven back.

The Muslims may have discontinued invading Spain, but they continued to rule parts of it for another 150-years.

1775 - The Second Continental Congress formally established the American Navy:  American Revolutionary War.

Forget the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, British and every other great navy in the history of the world. There has never been a more awesome naval force than that of the United States...At this time, however, it was a rag-tag group of daring seamen.

1941 - The aircraft carrier USS Enterprise departed from Pearl Harbor to deliver F4F Wildcat fighters to Wake Island:  WWII.

We’ll get to this on Dec. 7, but it’s hard to believe this was the result of Fate.

1943 – The Tehran Conference: President Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin met in Tehran:  WWII.

This was the first time the three leaders met together, and did much to convince Stalin the Western Allies were going to invade the Continent...Before this time, and probably after, Stalin was very concerned Churchill and FDR were going to allow the USSR to fight the Germans more or less on their own.

It was also during this meeting that Stalin first committed to sending Soviet troops to the Japanese Theatre after Germany was defeated, which was completely unnecessary in 1945, but in 1943 no one knew for sure...Unfortunately this decision cost the Allies in the form of Communist entrenchment in China and Korea.

1958 - The U.S. reported the first full-range firing of an ICBM.

This was nice, but our Soviet friends beat us to the punch...We didn’t know it at the time, but it was a 50/50 chance Soviet ICBM’s would have blown up in their silo's before liftoff.

Either way the ‘supposed’ Missile Gap was being closed.

1986 - The United States violated the unratified SALT II nuclear arms treaty when another Air Force B-52 bomber capable of carrying atomic-tipped cruise missiles became operational.

Thank you Ronald Reagan...And since the treaty wasn't ratified it wasn't 'violated.'

The B-52 added to our ability to defend our nation, and it added to our ability to mentally and economically destroy the USSR...Not surprisingly, the Democrats voted against it and our European allies bitched about it.

1990 - Margaret Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister of Britain.

1932 - The Kingdoms of Nejd and Hejaz merged to become the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud.

God played a nasty trick on humanity placing so much of the world’s most valuable modern commodity (oil) smack dab in the middle of this Islamic cauldron…As a result, the Arab dirt-farmers have cheated their pathetic heritage and become major players on the world’s economic and political scene.

1863 - The Battle of Chattanooga began: One of the most decisive battles of the American Civil War.

This was the Confederacy’s last chance to turn the war. General Thomas led the Union Army of the Cumberland, and General Bragg led the Confederate Army of Tennessee.

The two generals played a huge role in the battle:  Thomas came up big, and Bragg performed at his usual below-average level.

The importance of this battle was it completely opened up the South to Union forces attacking from the West, which gave the Union Army the opportunity of reconquering much of the South before the 1864 General Election...Crazy as it may sound, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion Lincoln would be reelected - Battlefield victories were needed desperately.

1921 - President Harding signed the Willis Campbell Act, better known as the anti-beer bill, forbidding doctors from prescribing beer or liquor for medicinal purposes.

It must be remembered Prohibition was in effect during this time in order to understand the context of 'needing a prescription for beer.'

Even back then the junkies knew how to work the system by claiming it was for medical purposes...Like our current-day pot-heads.

1923 - German Army commander General Von Seeckt banned the NSDAP and KPD.

1542 - New laws were passed in Spain giving protection against the enslavement of Indians in the Americas.

Many may ask: 'Why give Indians rights against enslavement, but not blacks?'

The answer is pretty simple: If they had continued enslaving the Indians, who outnumbered the Spaniards by millions, the Indians would have revolted as a general population and eventually slaughtered their masters...And don't think for one second many Indians weren't enslaved after this law. It just wasn't government's policy to do so.

Blacks were numerous in the New World, but the Spanish use of a little goodwill towards the Indians allowed them to continue controlling their black slaves.

This decision proved to effect the future of an entire continent, and the biological composition of this continent's people as a Spanish-Indian mix (Mestizo)...Had the Spanish continued to enslave the Indians this would never have happened on such a grand scale.

1963 - President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. Texas Governor John B. Connally was seriously wounded, suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested, and Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th President of the United States.

A sad day for America, and one which opened up a Pandora's Box of ultra Liberalism...Who knows what JFK would have done in the rest of his presidency, but I am quite sure he would have run the Vietnam War much more forcefully than LBJ did - it couldn't have been run much worse.

I'm equally sure he wouldn't have run amok expanding the 'Welfare State' as LBJ did - under the political cover of a martyred Kennedy...As every succeeding Democrat has done since.

1942 - Soviet troops completed the encirclement of the German Sixth Army at Stalingrad:  WWII.

By not allowing his generals to fight an intelligent battle (allowing them to retreat and regroup), Hitler more or less wasted a million German troops at Stalingrad.

1943 – The British Royal Air Force began the sustained bombing of Berlin:  WWII.

The tables were finally turned, and the German capital began feeling the ‘rain from hell’ which it had caused in London...This was just the beginning, however, and things got much worse when the Americans began daylight raids.

And the Germans deserved every last bomb they received...Even the supposedly 'innocent Germans.'

1967 - The U.N. Security Council approved Resolution 242, which called for Israel to withdraw from territories it captured in 1967, and implicitly called on adversaries to recognize Israel's right to exist.

The Arabs invaded Israel, and proceeded to get their tails kicked all over the Middle East, yet Israel was told it must give the Arab thugs their land back...Ha!!

What is with these jokers in the U.N.? Re-read the 1967 event.

The Palestinians should be recognized for nothing, except as an unwanted people without a home...If they were wanted there are many Arab counties who could have accepted them, but these countries want nothing to do with them.

This was also a sly way to give Israel a backhanded slap by doing so on the same date as they ‘recognized’ Israel.

1990 - British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, having failed to win re-election of the Conservative Party leadership on the first ballot, announced her resignation.

Margaret Thatcher is one of the most important women in world history, and was a fantastic ally of President Reagan’s in the Cold War.

1992 - President-elect Bill Clinton met in Little Rock, Ark. with sometime-critic Jesse Jackson, who praised the future chief executive as a leader who could "make the nation whole."

1. Jackson is a pathetic loser, and America’s blacks should be ashamed if they consider him a leader (that’s a big ‘IF’).

2. The only thing President Clinton made 'whole' was the whole Hell of a mess he made of Monica BlewClinsky’s blue-dress.

2004 - Ukraine’s central electoral commission said that with 99.38 percent of polling stations reporting, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich had secured 49.42 percent of the vote compared to 46.7 for his Western-leaning rival, Viktor Yushchenko. Tens of thousands of demonstrators jammed downtown Kiev in freezing temperatures, denouncing Ukraine's presidential runoff election as fraudulent and chanting the name of their reformist candidate. The color orange spread as the symbol of protest and the movement began to be called the Orange Revolution.

Freedom in the land of the former Soviet Union is a dangerous thing to accomplish, and leaning towards the West is even more dangerous...How long Ukraine will keep the Russian Bear at bay is unknown, and Ukraine must be very concerned if the West is willing to help in it's coming time of need.

Sadly, I'm betting the West will fail in this matter.

November 20

1497 - Vasco da Gama rounded the Cape of Good Hope, en route to discovering a water route to India.

At the time this was a much bigger find than Columbus discovering the New World. In fact India and China were Columbus’ real goal.

The trade route to India established Portugal as one of Europe’s great powers, but its star only lasted as long as the opinion that da Gama’s discovery was more important than Columbus’ - which wasn't for very long.

1521 - Arabs attributed a shortage of water in Jerusalem to Jews making wine.

I thought the Arabs started blaming the Jews for everything after the creation of Israel (400+ years later)...So much for that piece of popular fiction.

1815 - With the Second Peace of Paris, Napoleon was involuntarily exiled to St. Helena.

This time the Brits made sure there would be no escape...How Napoleon escaped the hangman I’ll never know.

1950 - U.S. troops pushed to the Yalu River, within five miles of Manchuria:  Korean War.

China was getting close, Truman was about to lose sphincter control, and General MacArthur was about to get fired.

We had victory in our hands, but backed off. Could we have completely destroyed the North Koreans and Chinese? Probably. Would going forward and pushing the Chinese have started WWIII? Probably not.  But, it would have resulted in an awful lot of American deaths.

I say Truman made the right decision to back off...Including not putting much thought into using our new Atomic Bombs, as well.

1959 - The United Nations issued its 'Declaration of the Rights of the Child.'

They’ve since 'unofficially' declared the 'Lack of Rights of the Unborn Child.'

1962 - President John F. Kennedy agreed to lift the American blockade of Cuba after the USSR agreed to remove bombers from Cuba, ending the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The good ol’ days for the Democrats, a time when they were pro-America and anti-Communist...Oh how things have changed.

1975 - An interim report by the U.S. Senate revealed the Central Intelligence Agency had plotted to kill foreign leaders, including Fidel Castro of Cuba and Patrice Lumumba of the Congo.

And this is a bad thing for what reason? Both are/were minor Stalins, and it would have been a gift to their countries (and humanity) to take them out.

1999 - A day after violent anti-American protests in Greece, President Clinton sought to heal old wounds by acknowledging the United States failed its "obligation to support democracy" when it backed the Greek's harsh military junta during the Cold War.

Hey Bill, of course our first option shouldn't be to support 'military juntas,' but our other option was Communists!!!! Which is why he was upset about our support.

November 18

1095 - Pope Urban II convened the Council of Clermont to plan the First Crusade.

I hope you haven't bought into the myth of the Crusades brought to us via the American media and public school system, who would have us believe the 'poor Muslims' were brutally attacked by the loony-religious, warmongering Europeans...What a joke.

One it's important to remember Islam conquered the area of the modern-Middle East from the West...For over a thousand years, the Western/Christian world extended from the Atlantic Ocean to the current borders of Russia, Persia and India, and included North Africa until they were conquered by Islam.

Also, Islam spread its reign of death and conquest not just through Asia and North Africa, but also into much of Eastern Europe, and ruled Spain for over 300 years by this time...Thankfully, Western Europe north of Spain was saved by the Franks (Charles Martel and Charlemagne) and the Habsburg Empire halted the Muslims in Central Europe.

The Europeans were responding to never-ending attacks and invasions, and it's a good thing they did because the Muslim world was advancing almost unchecked until the Crusaders took the fight back to them.

Ultimately, neither side was able to destroy the other, but the Crusades and Spanish Reconquista effectively limited the Muslim Horde to the Middle East, North Africa and the far reaches of Eastern Europe...A blessing those of us who live in the modern Western world should always be thankful for.

1307 - William Tell shot an apple off his son's head? Did it happen? No one knows for sure. The origin of the story is unknown, but is of either Swiss, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic or Persian origin.

If he did or didn’t is of no importance, and the event is of even less importance...But I do love the mythology of such events.

What's interesting is the origin of the story being of far north European (Germanic) or Persian origin.

The Haitian air force was the main combatant the French had to deal with, and was decimated by...What was the Haitian air force? Mosquitoes which spread malaria to the French troops, making them sick or killing them as fast as they arrived.

1916 - General Douglas Haig finally called off the first Battle of the Somme in Europe after five months of futile battle which included the first use of tanks in battle. The Allied advance of just 125 square miles claimed 420,000 British and 195,000 French casualties. German losses were over 650,000:  WWI.

The Somme was one of the great battles of WWI, and also one of the most useless...The Allies began the assault with the hope of keeping German troops from reaching the Battle of Verdun, but as it turned out the Battle of the Somme was more destructive than Verdun.

1936 - Germany and Italy recognized the Spanish government of Francisco Franco.

Of course they did...And Hitler took full advantage of the Spanish Civil War to train his troops and air force for his upcoming plans.

1978 - Jim Jones led 914 of his followers to their deaths at Jonestown, Guyana, by drinking a cyanide-laced fruit drink. Cult members who refused to swallow the drink were shot.

How sad, and how pathetic...I will never understand how people can be corralled into these insane asylums.

1988 - President Reagan signed major legislation creating a cabinet-level drug czar and providing the death penalty for drug traffickers who kill.

Executing 'drug traffickers who kill' is a great idea...But why not others who kill? And it seems to me that drug traffickers kill people’s health and minds even if they don’t take their actual life.

So, all drug traffickers should be executed...If for no other reason than for contributing to the destruction of American society.

1993 - The U.S. House of Representatives joined the Senate in approving legislation aimed at protecting abortion facilities, staff and patients.

No one should be threatened or killed...But it should be noted they did nothing to protect the most innocent and defenseless of all at an abortion clinic: UNBORN BABIES!!!

1996 - One time CIA station chief Harold J. Nicholson was charged with selling top secrets to the Russians.

This POS was sentenced to 23-years in prison...WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT!!!! All treasonous, traitorous Americans should be executed. No deals, no mercy.

2003 - The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled the right to same sex marriage was guaranteed by the state constitution.

Gotta love the Judicial Super-Legislators making stuff up as they go...How about letting the people of Massachusetts put the issue to a vote? Nah! Because we all know the perverse idea would go down in flame(r)s.

2004 - The U.N. Security Council held a two-day session in Nairobi. This was the first time it had convened outside of New York headquarters.

Too bad they weren't looking for a new home. The U.N. would be much better off in Nairobi, or Denmark, or Iran, or Korea, or...(fill in the blank with any non-American nation).

2005 - Conservative leader Angela Merkel took a last step toward becoming Germany's first female chancellor when she and other party officials signed a hard-won agreement to form a left-right coalition government.

Make no mistake, neither Merkel nor her party are Conservatives in the American sense, but they are much more so than their Lefty coalition partners.

November 17 (A Double)

1558 - Elizabeth I ascended to the English throne upon the death of Queen Mary (Bloody Mary).

Elizabeth is also known as 'The Virgin Queen' (since she never married or had children), 'Gloriana,' or 'Good Queen Bess'...She is also one of the few people in history to have an era named after her: 'The Elizabethan Era.'

Her reign proved to be one of the most important in English history, and saw the rise of England from a minor power to becoming one of the greatest powers ever.

1869 - The Suez Canal opened in Egypt, linking the Mediterranean and Red seas.

The importance of the Suez Canal cannot be minimized, because it allows direct, north-south trade between Europe and Asia without the need to go around the African continent.

Since the time of the Ancient Egyptians, attempts have been made to link the two continents through the Mediterranean water route, and at various times temporary canals have succeeded...It wasn't until the Suez Canal, however, that a permanent, reliable mode of passable transport was accomplished.

Sadly, the canal is in the middle of Jihadistan and has been, and will forever be, a tool used by Egypt and the Jihadists against the West.

1800 - The U.S. Congress held its first session in Washington D.C. in the partially completed Capitol building.

The U.S. Congress is the greatest legislative body in the history of the world, even though it is, and has always been, filled with a bunch of lying, cheating, scoundrels...Which speaks volumes about the rest of the world.

1917 - Vladamir Lenin defended the "temporary" removal of freedom of the press.

Quite the funny guy, ol' Vlad was...There was no such thing as a 'temporary removal' of anything in the Soviet Onion (spelling by intent).

Nikki was a beauty, but he was a true believer in the communist system...And truly believed it would 'bury' the capitalist system.

Thankfully, he and the Soviet Hell Sate have long since been 'buried.'

1993 - The U.S. House of Representatives voted to approve legislation implementing the North American Free Trade Agreement in what was seen as a major political victory for President Clinton.

NAFTA is a complete mess, and the politics of it brought strange bedfellows together: The Republicans in Congress sided with Clinton, and the Democrats in Congress sided with traditional Conservatives.

I will say the acronym was at least proper: North American Frequent Trafficking of Aliens (NAFTA).

November 4 (A Triple)

1979 - The Iran Hostage Crisis began when Iranian militants attacked the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Some hostages were released a few weeks later, but 52 hostages were kept captive for 444 days.

President Jimmy Carter allowed American citizens to be held captive for 444 days!!!

Not only did he subject these Americans to such a horror, but in doing so he emboldened the Islamists. A fact which has carried a heavy price from then to today...Unfortunately, every president who followed Carter did little more to stop Islamic terror. Until, Dubya came along that is.

The Middle Eastern dirt-farmers understand one thing, and one thing only: They understand ass kickings!!! They understand a 'Strong horse'...Everything else is a joke to them, and if we aren't the 'Strong Horse' giving the ass kickings, we will surely receive them.

Keep this in mind every time you hear our enemies say they long for Democrats to take control of the government. The reason is painfully obvious...As Obama proved.

That said, we need to remember there is a difference between militarily dominating the Middle East and politically/culturally doing so...There is no reason we can't be the dominant military power in the region, but we can never get them to be like us.  This was Bush's mistake; along with Obama. 

Hopefully Trump learns this lesson.
 
1980 - Ronald Reagan was elected U.S. President, defeating Jimmy Carter.

THANK GOD!!! Jimmy Carter was the worst American president of the 20th Century, and Reagan proved to be one of the best.

It's ironic the Peanut Farmer took this electoral beating on the same date he allowed the Iranians to give him his worst beating.

Also, this election is important because it began the 'Conservative Period' in American History: 1980-2008.
 
2008 - Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.

Love him or hate him, there's no denying this accomplishment makes Obama the most important black man in U.S. history...Unfortunately, being black is the only thing he proved to be good at as president.

Also, this election ended the 'Conservative Period' in American History:  1980-2008.

*If you are paying attention to the 'Periods' listed above, you should note the 'Liberal Period' in American History was 1933-1968...1968-1980 was a 'Lost Period.'

644 - Umar of Arabia, second Caliph of Islam, was assassinated at Medina and succeeded as caliph by Uthman. On his deathbed Umar named a council to choose the next caliph. The council appointed Uthman.

I'm quite certain Umar wouldn't have named Uthman...Especially if he knew Uthman was the one who had him assassinated.

1791 - Miami Indian Chief Little Turtle led the powerful force of Miami, Wyandot, Iroquois, Shawnee, Delaware, Ojibwa and Potawatomi who inflicted the greatest defeat ever suffered by the U.S. Army at the hands of North American Indians. Some 623 regulars led by General Arthur St. Clair were killed and 258 wounded on the banks of the Wabash River near present day Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This was a crushing defeat for the new nation, and caused it to increase the size of its army significantly...These type of victories for the Indians soon became more and more rare, and the tables were turned in a grand way.

1798 - The U.S. Congress agreed to pay a yearly tribute to Tripoli, considering it the only way to protect U.S. shipping.

'Paying tribute' to pirates is despicable, and the U.S. didn't put up with it for long...You should be familiar with the famous line in the Marine Hymn: "From the Halls of Montezuma, To the Shores of Tripoli."

The second half of the line is from the ass kicking we eventually gave these pirates...Return to the top if you need a reminder why this is necessary.

1939 - The U.S. Neutrality Act repealed the arms embargo (Neutrality Act of August 31, 1935) and authorized 'cash and carry' exports of arms and munitions to belligerent powers:  WWII.

Gotta love a bill called a 'Neutrality Act' which declares an end to 'neutrality.'

FDR and Congress would have been much more honorable had they entered WWII in 1939 instead of agreeing to profit on the war...But then again, the words honor and politician rarely go together.

1956 - The Soviet Union crushed the Hungarian independence movement by sending tanks into Budapest.

The official Soviet explanation for entering Hungary:

"The Soviet troops have temporarily entered Budapest on request from the Revolutionary Workers and Peasants' Government, to give brotherly aid to the Hungarian people in their struggle to protect the fruits of their socialist efforts, to crush the counter-revolution, to avert the Fascist danger etc., etc."

In other words, the Soviets came in to 'liberate' Hungary from itself...In the Land of the Gulag anything was possible, and I'm sure they felt this was a true statement.
