1865 - The 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, abolishing slavery.

It was overdue, and never would have happened without the Civil War...Never forget hundreds of thousands of white Americans died to keep the Union whole, and to bring about the freedom of their black brothers and sisters.

1240 - Mongols under Batu Kahn occupied and destroyed Kiev, Russia.

FYI: The Mongols were also called Tartars and Tatars...If you’ve ever seen an old map or globe with much of Central Asia (including Russia) labeled as Tartary or Tartaria, this is why.

1812 - The majority of Napoleon Bonaparte's Grand Armeé staggered into Vilna, Lithuania, ending the failed Russian campaign.

What a disaster. After entering Russia with over 650,000 troops, the emperor returned to Paris with less than 10,000.

Like Hitler a century later, Napoleon took on much more than he could handle by invading Russia, and paid for it with the loss of his empire within three years.

1876 - The U.S. Electoral College picked Rutherford B. Hayes as president, although Tilden won the popular election. A questionable vote count in Florida ended and Hayes was ahead by 924 votes. The Democrat attorney general validated the Tilden electors.

Florida politics has always been interesting...Dirty and cheating politics isn't new, and isn't limited to any specific place, however.

1904 - Theodore Roosevelt confirmed the Monroe Doctrine with the pronouncement of the Roosevelt Corollary.

Teddy was the best. Here’s how he viewed American suzerainty over the Western Hemisphere:  Roosevelt proclaimed the United States, because it was a "civilized nation," had the right to stop "chronic wrongdoing" throughout the Western Hemisphere.

"Any country whose people conduct themselves well can count upon our hearty friendship. Chronic wrongdoing, however,...may force the United States to exercise an international police power."

1912 - China voted for universal human rights.

This is one of the funniest (and saddest) things I’ve ever read in my life...China is a long way from anything even close to acknowledging 'human rights.'

1917 - Former Czar Nicholas II and family were imprisoned by the Bolsheviks.

They weren't prisoners for long; instead they became dead...The Communists couldn't run the risk of a return of the Czar. Which is exactly what any good revolutionary would have done.

1924 - The U.S. Border Patrol was organized.

Any chance it can start patrolling? I don't blame the agents, I blame the politicians who've put restraints on the agents.

1938 - France and Germany signed a treaty of friendship.

Hitler must have used all these treaties as toilet paper, and the French paid the price of appeasement and choosing bad 'friends' in less than a year.

1956 - Nelson Mandela and 156 others were jailed in South Africa on political charges.

South African apartheid was brutal and wrong, but it is mythology for anyone to see Mandela as anything other than an African Communist...Not a Stalinist or Maoist, but in the Marxist Utopian mold.

1991 - Senator Ted Kennedy, testifying at the trial of his nephew, William Kennedy Smith, denied hearing screams on the night Patricia Bowman said she was raped by Smith at the Kennedy estate in West Palm Beach, Florida.

That fat, drunk, bastard didn’t hear Mary Joe Kopeckne’s screams either, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t happen...So much for this ‘murderer’ being a legitimate witness.

2006 - Somalian Sheik Hussein Barre Rage, an Islamic courts official in Bulo Burto, said residents who do not pray five times a day will be beheaded.

October 7 (A Double)

1571 – The Battle of Lepanto: The Ottomans were defeated by the Holy League.

The Holy League was a  loosely allied force of the Papacy (Pope Pius V), Spain, Venice, Genoa, Savoy, Naples, and the Knights of Malta.  The Ottoman Turks were the dominant force in the Islamic world and the Mediterranean sea basin...As such this was the greatest naval battle in history between Christian and Muslim forces.

Lepanto is one of the most significant naval battles in history, one of the final naval clashes between ‘galleys,’ and the last gasp of the Ottoman Empire as a legitimate threat to Western Europe...It took centuries, but from this point forward the Christian world began rolling back the forces of Islam, reclaiming Europe, and even conquering much of the Islamic world.

1949 - The Republic of East Germany was formed.

The Soviets drew the demarcation line between ‘democracy’ and ‘communism’ at Berlin, and East Germany was its great wall to keep the West out...Even more important, it was the wall which kept the people of Eastern Europe 'in' - in slavery.

On many levels the Soviets can’t be blamed for doing so, after being invaded by Germany twice in the previous 50-years and losing 20-30 million people as a result of these invasions...And let's not forget that Napoleon also devastated Russia in the 1800's, as well.

Also, it was a division the Germans brought on themselves, and one the West was unable to undo for 50 years…It took the virtual collapse of the Soviet Empire for Germany to be reunited, but to this day the division is felt and the country still isn't fully repaired.

1492 - Christopher Columbus missed Florida after changing course due to a false cry of "land ho."

This is a ‘mislanding’ of great consequence...Had Columbus landed in North America the greatness of the Spanish Empire would have taken over the northern part of the Western Hemisphere, and who knows if the Brits would have been able to root them out.

As a result the New World would have a different look and who knows how history would be different...Needless to say there would not be a United States of America, because part of this country's greatness is in its territory and the English systems which were built on the territory.

1765 - Delegates from nine of the American colonies met in New York to discuss the Stamp Act Crisis and colonial response to it. This 'Stamp Act Congress' went on to draft resolutions (Declaration of Rights) condemning the Stamp and Sugar Acts, trial without jury, and taxation without representation as contrary to their rights as Englishmen.

The Colonists were getting sick of their meddling sovereign, and the Brits were getting sick of their undisciplined, ‘disloyal’ colonists...As such, the stage was being set for war, and a change in the world order.

1993 - President Clinton ordered more troops, heavy armor and naval firepower to Somalia, but also announced he would pull out all Americans by the end of March 1994.

1. He sent more 'power' but didn’t allow the troops on the ground to use this power.

2. Setting a date for 'pulling out' is stupid, because it gives the enemy a date to shoot for, and avoid battle until the date is up...But this is the Democrat modus operandi, as was seen in their demands for a 'pull out' date in Iraq and Afghanistan - with even worse results.

1994 - President Clinton ordered Army troops on alert and dispatched an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf after Iraqi troops were spotted moving south toward Kuwait.

Saddam played Clinton like a yo-yo, jerking him up and down as he pleased - not in a Monica-way, either...It was sickening how he allowed Hussein to act with impunity, but Clinton had no clue what it meant to be Commander-in-Chief. A fact America continues to pay dearly for.

2001 - Operation Enduring Freedom began. The United States launched its attack in Afghanistan to crush the Taliban and al Qaeda members responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I love the Democrat and European lie that they were in favor of attacking Afghanistan, but not Iraq…Truth is, they didn’t approve of attacking Afghanistan until deciding to use it as a political tool against attacking Iraq.

1957 - The Space Age began when the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first man-made satellite, into orbit. The satellite, built by Valentin Glushko, weighed 184 pounds and was launched by a converted intercontinental ballistic missile. Sputnik orbited the earth every 96 minutes at a maximum height of 584 miles. In 1958, it reentered the earth's atmosphere and burned up.

The Ruskies beat us into space, and many American’s went into immediate meltdown.

The biggest result of this event was the foundation of NASA, and the rapid increase in rocket technology by the U.S. - thanks in large part to former Nazi scientists.

Little did we know the Russians were able to launch a small ball in space, but once the U.S. caught and passed the Soviets they never approached the U.S. in space technology.

Well, not until Obama gave up that advantage by mothballing the Shuttle program...And now we are dependent on the Russian space program to get Americans into space.  A true disgrace.

1777 - The Battle of Germantown: American forces were defeated by the British, ending George Washington's last attempt to retake Philadelphia:  American Revolutionary War.

The Brits invested the key city of Philadelphia, and Washington was sent packing for the winter...It was a brutal one, at Valley Forge.

1976 - Gregg v. Georgia: The U.S. Supreme Court lifted the ban on the death sentence in murder cases, restoring the legality of capital punishment, which had not been practiced since 1967. The first execution following this ruling was Gary Gilmore in 1977.

1993 - Dozens of cheering, dancing Somalis dragged the body of an American soldier through the streets of Mogadishu.

Good thing our troops were sent out without proper weapons, personnel carriers, and protection...In other words, President Clinton sent them out to die - intentionally or not.

1990 - West and East Germany ended 45-years of postwar division, declaring the creation of a new unified country with 78-million citizens.

I was 20-years old, and remember watching in amazement as the world changed right in front of my eyes...The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, Germany was reunited, and the Soviet Empire soon collapsed as well.

The Cold War was coming to an end, and many in the Western world believed a new era of peace was being established...Unfortunately, no one got word to the Jihadis or the Chinese.

2333 B.C. - Traditional date on which Tangun established the Kingdom of Chosun.

This kingdom occupied the approximate land of modern-day Korea...It was called Chosun by the Japanese and Joseon by the Chinese. Meaning: "Land of the Morning Calm."

Unfortunately, the northern part of it's current territory is now known as the 'Land of the Hell State.'

1913 - The U.S. Federal Income Tax was signed into law - at 1%.

I'm pretty sure we could all live with this law as it was designed - a 1% tax on income...It wasn't until the Liberal Years (1930's-1970's) that the idea of copying European Socialism took root.

Americans like to pretend we aren't Socialist here in the U.S., but I bet if you took a hard accounting of how much tax you pay (Fed, State, Local, consumption, property, utilities, etc), you'd find most 'working' Americans have well over 40% of their hard-earned money claimed by the government. Many pay much more.

There's no way to deny this is the truth, and no way to call it anything other than a sneaky system of Socialism...Otherwise known as American Liberalism.

1941 - Adolf Hitler declared in a speech that Russia had been "broken" and would "never rise again":  WWII.

Hitler was many things, but Nostradamus he was not, and within two years the Ruskies soon turned Der Fuhrer's words on his own people.

1993 - U.S. Army Rangers were ambushed in Mogadishu, Somalia. 18 Americans were killed and 84 wounded...President Clinton expressed sorrow at the deaths of American soldiers in Somalia, but reaffirmed that U.S. forces would stay in the African nation.

Bubba was a clueless Commander-in-Chief, who had nothing but disregard for the Military, and did nothing but hamstring our troops and put them in positions to suffer and look bad.

I admit to being a hard-core 'hawk,' and believe the U.S. Military has a large role to play in the America Empire (and yes, it is an empire!)...But, what in the Hell were our troops sent to this toilet for without any clear objective, or the means to pursue an objective?

I'm assuming it was because the 'unknown objective' passed the "Global Test" (as described by John Kerry)...But it sure as Hell didn't pass the only test that really matters: 'The American Test'!!!!

1995 - The jury in the O.J. Simpson murder trial found the former football star innocent of the 1994 slayings of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ronald Goldman.

1. I still can't believe the O.J. Trial is the most played TV event of my lifetime.

2. 'The Juice' murdered two people for free...He should have fried. But at least he was stupid enough to allow justice to catch up with him a decade later.

1396 - The last great Christian crusade, led jointly by John the Fearless of Nevers and King Sigismund of Hungary, ended in disaster at the hands of Sultan Bajazet I’s Ottoman army at Nicopolis.

The Crusades died a whimpering death, but did perform the vital function of keeping the Muslim Horde tied up in the Middle East and North Africa.

From the 8th-11th Centuries the Muslims swept through much of South and Southwest Asia, and were on the march towards Europe...The Crusaders failed in their goal to reclaim the Holy Land, but succeeded in a much more important (and unintentional) way by saving Central and Western Europe from Islam's ravages.

1066 - The Battle of Stamford Bridge: England's Saxon King Harold defeated an invading Norwegian force.

Harold marched his troops out to defeat the Norwegians...And defeat them he did.

Little did he know, however, there was another invader coming from the south - An invasion led by William, Duke of Normandy...Soon to be known as William the Conqueror.

1513 - Spanish explorer Vasco Balboa crossed the Isthmus of Panama, becoming the first known European to see the Pacific Ocean.

The westward path to the Orient was discovered, and the link between the Atlantic and the Pacific became an obsession for many for the next 400-years.

FYI: It was the same isthmus Balboa crossed which ultimately served as the mechanism for uniting the two great oceans, with the construction of the Panama Canal.

1555 - The Peace of Augsburg: Lutheranism was recognized in Germany.

This was a peace treaty signed by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V and the princes of the Shmalkaldic League (the Lutheran Princes).

The treaty was a bitter pill for Charles and the Catholic Church, and a final realization he couldn't keep the forces of Lutheranism at bay...The result was the official recognition of the Lutheran religion in the Empire.

"Cuius regio, eius religio": "He who rules, his religion," or "in the Princes land, the Princes religion."

In other words: The various lands of the Empire would be Catholic or Lutheran as determined by the religion of that land's ruler.

1789 - The first United States Congress adopted 12 amendments to the Constitution and sent them to the states for ratification. Ten of the amendments became the Bill of Rights.

The fact there would be amendments to the new Constitution was known before the great document even had time to dry...It would have never been ratified without this knowledge.

We all know of the first 10 amendments (the Bill of Rights), but I admit I have no idea what the proposed 11th and 12th were???

1818 - The first blood transfusion using human blood (instead of animal blood) was performed in London at Guy's Hospital.

This was a huge advance in medical technology...It's hard to believe any transfusions from animal blood were successful.

1890 - Mormon president Wilford Woodruff issued a manifesto formally renouncing the practice of polygamy.

Make no mistake, the Mormons didn't want to make this concession...They had little choice.

At the time Utah was a semi-autonomous territory within the U.S., but was being faced with a couple of choices, neither of which were palatable to the Mormon populace.

1. End polygamy, and retain a little power as a territory and later a state in the Union.

2. Continue on its path and be annihilated by federal troops.

There was no third option, and the one they chose allowed them to maintain a semblance of autonomy.

1938 - President Franklin Roosevelt urged negotiations between Hitler and Czech President Benes over the Sudetenland.

This turned out well...And the Czechs had no say in the eventual 'negotiations.'

1954 - François Duvalier ('Papa Doc') was elected President of Haiti.

By no means was Papa Doc even close to the 20th Century's Mega-Deka Murderers, but he was a very established democidal nut...Killing around 30,000 on the tiny island of Haiti.

That said, it is quite possible Duvalier was the most bizarre character of the 20th Century (a huge honor considering his peers), and a self-proclaimed Voodoo practitioner...If you like reading about insaniacs, I recommend you check out Papa and Baby Doc.

1974 - Scientists warned the continued use of aerosol sprays would cause ozone depletion, leading to increased risk of skin cancer and global weather changes.

This was during a time when many scientists were warning of 'Global Cooling'...Check it out: Newsweek, April 28, 1975.

1993 - Three U.S. soldiers in Somalia were killed when their helicopter was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade.

I'm sure our Commander-in-Chief had great intentions, but what was our military doing in Somalia without a legitimate plan?

Also, why is it Democrat presidents can use the military to do whatever bogus operations they want, but George Bush deposed of one of the world's most dangerous dictators and Liberals went nuts?

1453 - The Battle of Castillon: The French routed the English, ending the Hundred Years War.

As a result of losing this war, the English lost almost every claim it had on the European continent, which it previously clung to as part of William the Conqueror's Norman holdings.

This was a major event in the history of France, because it secured it's western flank, allowing France to start expanding south and east.

It was also an important event for the English, even though it couldn't have been seen as such at the time...England became much more English and less French.  Which laid the foundation for the worldwide empire the U.K. became.

1982 - Ronald Reagan gave his 'Evil Empire' speech.

The Right Man, At the Right Place, At the Right Time!!! This is what Ronald Reagan was in the history of our great country...He was a man of conviction, and a man who said what he meant and meant what he said.

Reagan called the Soviets an 'Evil Empire,' and he meant it...He also meant to let them know their days were numbered.

Amazingly, the Liberal fools in the U.S. and Europe hated Reagan for using such a phrase...Much as they hated President George W. Bush when he spoke of an 'Axis of Evil' regarding global terrorism.

History will be just as kind to G.W. Bush as it has been to Reagan, because both were LEADERS. Not poll takers, pretenders or resigned to seeing the U.S. taken down a few pegs.

1789 - The French Third Estate declared itself a national assembly.

Most are confused by the term Third Estate, so lets go over it:

First Estate = The Clergy
Second Estate = The Nobility
Third Estate = Those not part of the First or Second

The creation of the National Assembly was a radical idea in France, where all power was previously in the hands of the Clergy and Nobility...In other words, they were trying to replicate what the Americans did.

1898 - Spain surrendered to the United States at Santiago, Cuba, ending the Spanish-American War.

This war marks the beginning of America's rise as a world power...It also marks the end of Spain pretending to be a world power.

1936 - The Spanish Civil War began when General Francisco Franco led an army revolt.

Normally a civil war in Spain would barely be news, but this event was much more than a Spanish war...The Spanish Civil War was a dress rehearsal for WWII, particularly for the Germans and Soviets.

1945 - President Harry Truman, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met at the opening of the Potsdam Conference:  WWII.

Many look at the Potsdam Conference as a giant sell-out to the Soviets, because much of Central and Eastern Europe - including most of Germany - was more or less handed over to their control.

Truman is often rebuked for being outmaneuvered by Stalin, but the truth is he had no choice...The Soviet Army controlled the areas described in the treaty, and the only way they would have been removed is if Truman was willing to send in Ike, Bradley, Patton, and the troops. Which wasn't going to happen.

The Soviets did as much, if not more, of the fighting in the European Theatre of the war - as well as much more of the dying - and had a legitimate claim to what they'd consolidated...Reality isn't always pretty, but it is what it is.

1993 - U.N. forces in Somalia searched in vain for warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid.

Bill Clinton sent our troops into Somalia to take out a two-bit warlord...And did nothing but embarrass our troops and get them killed.

Bush sent our troops to one of the world's flash points (Iraq), and succeeded in capturing Saddam and his boys. Why is it the media and Liberals justify Clinton and Obama's wars, but not Bush's?

1994 - After leading police on a slow-speed chase on Southern California freeways, O.J. Simpson was arrested and charged with murder in the slayings of his ex-wife, Nicole, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

This is still the most pathetic night of TV watching in my life - which says a lot....Why the helicopters didn't shoot his ass off the freeway I'll never know.
