THIS DAY IN HISTORY

February 11 (A Double)

1945 - President Franklin Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet leader Josef Stalin signed the Yalta Agreement.

I’m a Conservative ‘hawk,’ but it is foolish for anyone to claim FDR 'gave up Eastern Europe and Berlin' to the Soviets at Yalta...We weren't going to war with the Soviets to save Eastern Europe, and were not going to beat the Ruskies to Berlin.

Sure Roosevelt was on his deathbed, but he did not betray anyone, and wasn’t swindled by Stalin.

Plus, from the very beginning of the war, the Western allies main goal was to defeat Germany and contain them in the future - at the time, 50-years was a pipe dream...The Soviets were a strong force on the Eastern flank, and to this day the Germans are still cowed from their resounding defeat - proving the 50-year goal to be much more achievable than anyone could have hoped for.

The one ‘mistake’ FDR did made at Yalta was pushing so hard to get Soviet involvement in the Japanese theatre of battle. It was completely unnecessary at this point of the war, and proved terribly costly because it was Uncle Joe’s excuse to openly intervene in China and Korea.

1979 - Followers of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini seized power in Iran, nine days after the religious leader returned to his home country following 15-years of exile.

Thank you Jimmy Carter...This should have been stopped before it began, but he didn’t have the intestinal fortitude to assassinate the 'Lenin of the Middle East.' We will continue to pay dearly for this mistake, because this joke-of-a-president was unwilling to take care of the situation while it was possible at a minimal cost.

660 B.C. - Japan was founded by Emperor Jimmu Tenno.

Of course this date is mythical, but it's a great story, for a great culture and people...Here’s hoping they are our perpetual allies, because their genius and national discipline would combine to make a terrible foe - again!

1650 - Rene Descartes died.

Many will say: 'Who cares?' (myself included)...The reason this event is memorable is because most historians link his death with the end of the Renaissance Period.

1847 - Thomas Alva Edison was born.

Thankfully this genius was born long before the days of mass abortion.

I wonder how many Edison’s, Einstein’s, Da Vinci’s, Newton’s, etc., have been executed in the womb during the Prenatal Holocaust? Odds are, at least a few with such brilliance are killed off in the 45,000,000 abortions per year worldwide.

1904 - President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed strict neutrality for the U.S. in the Russo-Japanese War.

This war was so short it wouldn’t have mattered if T.R. proclaimed our alliance with either, because by the time we would have gotten there the war would have been over.

1943 - General Dwight Eisenhower was selected Supreme Allied Commander of all Allied armies in Europe:  WWII.

Ike was the perfect ‘political-general’ for the difficult task of invading the Continent with a multi-national force...He didn’t have the tactical genius of Patton or the strategic and logistical genius of Marshall (who outranked him), but it is doubtful any other general could have molded such a perfect Allied force.

1975 - Margaret Thatcher became the first female leader of a British political party when she was elected leader of the Conservatives.

The 'Iron Lady' was a great leader, and proved to be the third most important person in the downfall of the USSR...After President Reagan and Pope John Paul II.

January 30

1933 - Adolph Hitler was named German Chancellor.

German President Hindenburg, the Army, and others thought they could control and marginalize Hitler by putting him in this post.

"I will employ my strength for the welfare of the German people, protect the Constitution and laws of the German people, conscientiously discharge the duties imposed on me, and conduct my affairs of office impartially and with justice to everyone." - A. Hitler

That worked out well.

Hindenburg died in 1934, Hitler was hardly marginalized - let alone controlled - and the Nazi regime was about to 'make history.'

1648 - The Peace of Munster.

The Netherlands finally achieved independence from Spain...Over a hundred years before the American colonies broke from Britain.

1661 - Oliver Cromwell was ritually executed.

I love this kind of stuff.  So, what did English King Charles II do?  Two years after Cromwell had been dead, he was dug up, hanged, drawn and quartered, then his body was thrown in a pit and his head displayed on a pole outside Westminster Abby.

Such is the fate of those who overthrow their leaders and don't figure out a way to keep their own on the throne.

1717 - Surrounded by the Russian Army, the Lithuanian-Polish Parliament reduced its army by half and acknowledged Russian protection.

'Acknowledged Russian protection?' Very nice.

The Ruskies had them surrounded...And soon conspired with Germany and Austria to eliminate both nations.

1781 - The Articles of Confederation went into effect as the official government of the United States of America.

I hope you know there was a U.S. government between the period of American independence and the Constitution...If you didn't, you need to return to this blog much more regularly.

1835 - A gunman fired twice at President Andrew Jackson, the first attempt on the life of a U.S. President. Jackson wasn't injured.

The first, but not the last...I’m not hoping for Trump, or any future president, to take a shot (not by any means), but we are very overdue for another.

1862 - The U.S. Navy's first ironclad warship, the Monitor, was launched:  U.S. Civil War.

It’s nearly miraculous this 'can with a turret' didn’t sink immediately...The upcoming battle between the two ironclads (Monitor vs. Merrimack) proved to be a joke, but the era of wooden ships was about to come to an end with the introduction of these two ships.

1937 - Thirteen leading Communists were sentenced to death for allegedly participating in a plot, led by Leon Trotsky, to overthrow the Soviet regime and assassinate its leaders.

Was it true or not? Probably, probably not...Either way it was a good excuse for Uncle Joe to pull out the execution squads, and he didn't limit his retaliation to thirteen.

1939 - Adolf Hitler called for the extermination of European Jews:  WWII.

WhoooHooo!!!! Happy Extermination Day...Sick bastard.

1948 - Indian political and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi was murdered by a Hindu extremist.

A sad day for the world...Gandhi was a Socialist, but he was a good man, and a great Indian.

1953 - President Eisenhower announced he would pull the Seventh Fleet out of Formosa to permit the Nationalists to attack Communist China.

What a joke...The Nationalists would have been slaughtered en mass, as our troops found out in North Korea.

Nice bluff, Ike. Don’t make threats you don’t aim to keep.

1968 - The Tet Offensive began: North Vietnamese forces launched surprise attacks against South Vietnamese provincial capitals.

The war was a mess before, but this event caused LBJ to flinch (almost a full Turret’s twitch)...The U.S. eventually won the battle, as it did every other, but never regained its footing politically.

And never forget why we lost the war: Both parties (and many presidents) failed our country, but the Democrats (who controlled the presidency and Congress for most of it) were too weak to win the war, and the Republicans were given an unwinnable situation by the time Nixon became president.

1979 - The civilian government of Iran announced it decided to allow Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who'd been living in exile in France, to return.

Khomeini's return was one of the biggest mistakes of the Carter Presidency...Which says a lot.

It was expected Khomeini would fire up a revolution, but Carter didn’t have the stomach to have him assassinated...We know the rest of the story in Iran, but most overlook the overall effect this had on the Middle East, where various forms of Islamic fundamentalism are trying to take hold throughout the region.

2003 - President G.W. Bush put America's allies on notice that diplomacy would give way to a decision on war with Iraq in "weeks, not months."

THANK GOD Jimmy Carter wasn’t president after 9/11/01...Or Clinton, or Gore, or Kerry, or Obama, etc, etc, etc.……

January 29

1877 - An Electoral Commission, made up of eight Republicans and seven Democrats, was established by Congress to settle the issue of Democrat Samuel Tilden for president against Republican Rutherford B. Hayes. Under the terms of the Tilden-Hayes Election Compromise, Hayes became U.S. President and the Republicans agreed to remove the last Federal troops from Southern territory, ending the Civil War Reconstruction Period. On election night, 1876, it was clear Tilden won the popular vote, but it was also clear that votes in Florida, Louisiana, South Carolina and Oregon were fraudulent because of voter intimidation. Republicans knew if the electoral votes from these four states were thrown out, Hayes would win. As a result, the country hovered near civil war as both Democrats and Republicans claimed victory.

Many Americans wrongly believe the 2000 election was the first with 'irregularities'...I hope you don’t, because there have been many ‘contested’ America elections.

Politics is messy, and you must always remember 'electoral politics' is a superior replacement to 'battlefield politics' - civil war...The transfer and acceptance of power is always ugly, but doing so in a peaceful, free, democratic fashion is much better than the deadly alternative.

There is no 'third way.'

1936 - The first players were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame:  Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Matthewson and Walter Johnson.

Blasts from the past, and still some of the best names in the history of the game...Ruth is the best known in our time, but it's important to note many felt Cobb was the better player in 'their' time - Cobb received 98% of the votes and Ruth 95%.

1984 - The Soviets issued a formal complaint against alleged U.S. arms treaty violations.

Of course we were in violation; so were the Soviets...And so have been, and always will be, any nation ever to 'agree' to arms limitations. Only a Utopian idiot would think otherwise.

1992 - Russian President Boris Yeltsin unveiled an ambitious plan to cut nuclear weapons spending and said his republic's weapons would no longer be aimed at any U.S. targets.

See the above comment from 1984...That said, the Russians had to cut back spending, because they were dead broke.

1999 - Chinese police were ordered to arrest people posting anti-government remarks on computer networks.

Their American Democrat brethren must be so jealous of the Chi-Coms.  If only they could squash Conservative speech, or any type of opposition...Sort of like what happened with the Obama administration using the IRS and NSA as a battering ram.

2002 - In his State of the Union address, President Bush labeled Iraq, Iran and North Korea an "Axis of Evil."

Bush wasn't eloquent, but he was correct about these three countries...And they aren't alone.

January 27

1945 - Soviet forces liberated Auschwitz and its concentration camps, where the Nazis murdered 1.5 million men, women and children, including more than one million Jews:  WWII.

I must repeat, there is no such thing as a 'Soviet liberation'.  They may not have systematically eliminated the Jews, but they surely weren’t there to 'liberate' them.

That said, even the brutal Ruskies were appalled by the situation at Auschwitz.

1939 - Franklin Roosevelt approved the sale of U.S. war planes to France:  WWII.

Talk about a waste of time and money...For both the French and Americans.

I'm sure the Germans appreciated it, though.

1944 - The Soviets broke through the Siege of Leningrad:  WWII.

Sieges are always brutal, but this was one of the longest sustained sieges in history (almost 900 days)...The Soviets suffered almost a million deaths - most were civilians.

Little wonder when the Red Army took the offensive to the Germans they acted the way they did - which was almost as barbaric as the Germans.

1951 - An era of atomic testing in the Nevada desert began when an Air Force plane dropped a one-kiloton bomb on Frenchman Flats.

Drop the 'Flats' and you’ll see me do cartwheels.

1981 - President Reagan greeted the 52 former American hostages released by Iran, telling them during a visit to the White House: "Welcome home."

Carter was a disgrace for many reasons (and continues to add to his resume), but his lack of legitimate efforts to save the hostages is at the top of the list.

January 8

1926 - Abdul-Aziz ibn Saud established the Kingdom of Hejaz - later renamed Saudi Arabia.

A country was created out of the desert wasteland...What a cruel irony their only valuable resource is the most important resource on Earth:  Oil.

And the world’s most irresponsible and lunatic people happen to control a large portion of the world's share of it.

1815 - The Battle of New Orleans:  War of 1812.  U.S. forces, led by General Andrew Jackson defeated the British in the last battle of the war.

The war ‘officially’ ended on December 24, 1814, but news of the peace treaty hadn’t reached the South yet...That's a good story, but not reality.

The truth is the Brits were hoping for a victory in New Orleans to use as a way of restarting the war, or at the very least to use as a bargaining tool against the U.S. in peace negotiations.

Instead the Brits got whooped, and it was beautiful for Jackson to slap the Brits around to the tune of 2,044 British casualties to only 71 for the U.S. troops...It was the last time the Brits returned to the U.S. with bad intentions.

1871 - Prussian troops began bombarding Paris:  Franco-Prussian War.

This became a reoccurring theme for the next 70-years between the Germans and French...Amazingly, they are friends now, but sooner or later the French will be Germany’s whipping-boy again.

1918 - President Wilson outlined his 'Fourteen Points for Peace':  World War I.

It all sounded nice, his idealistic plan for a world forever free from conflict, but the reality was (and always will be) the world isn’t a pretty place...The League of Nations was created out of Wilson’s Utopian pipe-dream, but the U.S. didn’t even join it, and WWII was less than 25-years away.

1954 - President Dwight Eisenhower proposed stripping convicted communists of their U.S. citizenship.

This was a move which would have been completely against the First Amendment, and never made it past the Supreme Court...He could have done more to destroy communism in America had he done more to destroy it internationally.

1964 - President Lyndon Johnson declared a 'War on Poverty.'

In order to crush poverty he increased welfare, which increased the 'political indentured servitude' of America’s poor and minorities by tying them to the Democrat Party...All along knowing these people would never be able to pull themselves out of their poor state as long as the Democrat Party was around to 'help keep them down.'

I have to admit it has been the greatest political strategy in American history, even though it's also been one of the most destructive social experiments in that same history.

1997 - The state of Arkansas put three men to death in the second triple execution since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976.

Gotta love a ‘triple’...It's good anytime a criminal scumbag is removed from this world. It's even better when three go at a time.

1998 - 'Unabomber' suspect Theodore Kaczynski tried to commit suicide just hours before stunning a packed courtroom by saying he wanted to be his own lawyer and argue he was sane. He appeared in court with a red mark on his neck and missing his undershorts, leading police to conclude he attempted to kill himself in his cell at the Sacramento County Jail. He was placed under security surveillance.

On the next day, they should have tossed a rope in his cell...Instead the state of California will be paying to incarcerate this piece of garbage for the rest of his life. What a sad joke.

1998:  World Trade Center bomber Rahmzi Ahmed Yousef was sentenced to life in prison.

Six people died and over a thousand were injured, yet this terrorist was given a life sentence instead of being executed.  Like Kaczynski, this case is a sad joke.

2002 – The 'No Child Left Behind Act,' was signed into law by President Bush.

Another case of 'Bad if (R) and Good if (D)'...Also, don't forget, this was a 'bi-partisan' bill, co-authored by two Republicans and two Democrats (one being Ted Kennedy).

The media and the Left love to snipe at this act, but if the same bill had been passed under Bill Clinton or Obama they’d be saying it is a great law.

2002 - The Bush administration sent a secret report to Congress, the 'Nuclear Posture Review,' which said the Pentagon needed to be prepared to use nuclear weapons against seven nations: China, Russia, Iraq, North Korea, Syria, Iran, and Libya.

The press and Congressional Democrats went nuts over this report...But it's a matter of National Defense, which should have been done long before this date.

The president’s first priority is protecting the nation. Neglecting to acknowledge our enemies, and finding ways to destroy them, would be a complete dereliction of duty...Something Democrats have become expert at.

December 28

1950 - Advancing Chinese troops crossed the 38th Parallel, dividing line between North and South Korea, to help the communist North Koreans:  Korean War.

It was extremely cold in North Korea at this time, but with this event the war got hotter than ever...And the tide of the war changed.

MacArthur had completely righted the war and it was turning into a route, but the entry of China and its million-man-army put the Americans in an impossible situation because they didn't have anywhere near the amount of men and materiel needed to force the Chinese out of Korea...At least, not without using the atom bomb.

As such, the history of the Far East changed with this event...Not only did it seal the fate of the Koreans, but it showed the world that the American military wasn't omnipotent - nor was it willing to use its atomic weapons again.

It also showed China was ready to reemerge from about 200-years of being kicked around by the West and Japan.

856 - Vikings attacked and burned Paris.

I wonder if this is when the Franks became French? It was less than 50-years after Charlemagne's death, yet this once mighty group of people had already become a bunch of pansies.

1688 - William of Orange made a triumphant march into London as James II fled.

A bloodless coup occurred and the Glorious Revolution began a new, great, period in English history.

1945 - The U.S. Congress officially recognized the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States.

I say the Pledge to my Flag every day, and there are few things which bring more joy to my life...I will never understand how anyone can have a problem with ‘pledging allegiance’ to this great nation through any of its symbols.

1971 - The U.S. Justice Department sued Mississippi officials for ignoring the ballots of blacks.

The same should be done for election fraud of any kind...Especially in the case of illegal alien or multiple voters.

Never forget any fraudulent vote is a counter-vote to a legit vote in its opposition...Which is exactly why the Dems push so hard to restrict voter ID card requirements - they need the fraudulent votes.

1995 - President Clinton vetoed a $265 billion defense bill, saying it would waste money on an unneeded missile defense system.

Just another step in Bubba’s 'reign of destruction against the U.S. Military'...And a waste of time in what has become necessary anyway.  Too bad we were put back a decade.

2000 - Iran and Russia announced an expanded military and security partnership.

We know how things are going to end up in Iran (they're going to get their atomic weapon), but Russia is a wild card. And the Ruskies are really playing with fire, because it is equally as likely for the Iranians to turn on them as they are to remain partners.

You would think the Ruskies would have learned the danger of making deals with the Devil after their experience with Hitler...I guess not.

December 23

1944 - General Dwight Eisenhower confirmed the death sentence of Private Eddie Slovik, the only American soldier executed for desertion since the Civil War:  WWII.

This is exactly how a deserter should be punished...As should those who commit treason, sedition or subversive acts against the U.S. - which should include those who are draft dodgers.

1779 - Benedict Arnold was court-martialed for improper conduct.

'Improper conduct' = A nice way to say treason!!

Ironically, 'TREASON' is a common theme on this day.

1783 - George Washington resigned as Commander-in-Chief of the Army and retired to his home at Mount Vernon, Virginia.

The great man had less than six-years of peace before he was called on to serve his nation again - in 1789 as President.

1902 - An exceptionally brutal three-year war waged by the U.S. Army against Filipino revolutionaries ended with the signing of an armistice by the rebels, which left the U.S. in possession of the archipelago of 7,100 islands. General Arthur MacArthur (father of Douglas) conducted this war, which had Filipino casualties estimated between 50,000 to over 2,000,000.

Who in the Hell came up with these casualty figures? 50,0000 is quite a bit smaller than 2,000,000...Not even a Democrat-Voter-Fraud-Collector could come up with such a wide split.

Ok, maybe they could in Cook or King County.

1921 - President Warren Harding freed socialist Eugene Debs and 23 other political prisoners.

A horrible precedent...The 24 Socialist subversives should have been executed.

1933 - Marinus van der Lubbe was sentenced to death for the ‘Reichstag Fire.’

“The only one who really knows about the Reichstag is I, because I set it on fire!” - Herman Goering (claimed by Gen. Franz Halder at the Nuremberg Trials.)

Hitler and, the soon to be Fat Ass Field Marshal, were more than happy to blame the loony communist, who was beheaded on January 10, 1934...They must have been feeling a little on the festive side allowing him to live an extra 19 days through the Christmas season.

1947 - President Harry Truman granted a pardon to 1,523 who evaded the World War II draft.

See the 1944 comment (at the top).

1948 – Hideki Tojo and six other Japanese war leaders were executed.

Good riddance to dead dictators and warlords.

1953 - Robert Oppenheimer lost his security clearance due to contact with communists and opposition to the Hydrogen-Bomb.

See the 1944 comment.

1996 - President Clinton expressed gratitude to the nation's armed forces as he visited Marines at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Empty words from the man who did more to destroy the U.S. Military than any president before or after - well, maybe until Obama took over.

Forget the BlewClinsky affair, as a draft-dodger Clinton should have never been allowed to run for the highest office in the land - holding the title of Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Once again, see the 1944 comment.

2006 - The U.N. Security Council voted unanimously to impose sanctions on Iran for refusing to suspend uranium enrichment. The Security Council resolution ordered all countries to stop supplying Iran with materials and technology that could contribute to its nuclear and missile programs. It also froze the Iranian assets of 10 key companies and 12 individuals related to those programs. Iran denounced the sanctions. China’s endorsement was an important symbolic act.

'Symbolic' indeed...What a sad joke.

December 16 (A Quadruple)

1653 - Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland.

After emerging victorious in the English Civil War, Cromwell took control of the British nation as Dictator...He was an excellent military commander and banned the monarchy, but an average civil administrator as Lord Protector and left a weak successor, who was quickly replaced by King Charles II.

An interesting note on Cromwell: Charles II hated him so much he had Cromwell’s dead body dug up in 1661 and gave him a 'posthumous execution,' then a public hanging and finally had him drawn and quartered.

1689 - The English Parliament adopted a Bill of Rights after the Glorious Revolution.

Don't mistake this Bill of Rights with the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

This bill of rights gave some minor rights to the English people, but was primarily a political document acknowledging the succession of William and Mary as King and Queen, and then deciding the line of succession. It also stated the English monarchy could never be placed in the hands of a Roman Catholic.

The most important part of the Bill, however, was a huge one - giving Parliament political supremacy over the monarch.

1773 - The Boston Tea Party: Around 50 American colonists boarded a British ship and dumped 342 chests of tea overboard into Boston harbor to protest tea taxes.

The 'Sons of Liberty,' led by Samuel Adams, dressed as Mohawk Indians, fired one of the first shots of the soon-to-come American Revolution with this act of defiance.

The question I have is:  What happened to the Bostonians? They went from being the original anti-tax, small-government Americans, to becoming the degenerate, pseudo-communist, People’s Republic of Massachusetts...A sad ending for the home of our first Patriots.

1944 - The Battle of the Bulge began: WWII.  German forces broke through the allied lines in the rugged Ardennes region, taking U.S. troops by surprise.

This was the last gasp of Hitler and the German Army in WWII, and it started with a bang...It ended with a whimper, as Patton rolled up the German offensive.

The saddest part of the battle is it slowed the Western Allies down just long enough to allow the Ruskies to take Berlin - Hitler's last abuse of the German people...Maybe they deserved it, however, for putting such a madman in place.

1950 - In the wake of the massive Chinese intervention in the Korean War, President Harry S. Truman declared a state of emergency, proclaiming "Communist imperialism" threatened the world's people. Truman called upon the American people to help construct an "arsenal of freedom."

Truman would have done well to think of this problem from the beginning of the Korean War...If he wanted to stop the spread of Communism he had the ability to do so, instead he took the French way out, refusing to fight an offensive war, and our troops suffered as a result.

Unfortunately, he passed this characteristic on to every succeeding American president.

1969 - The British House of Commons approved the permanent abolition of the death penalty.

How can they be against aborting the lives of hard-core criminals, but for executing innocent unborn children?

1998 - President Clinton ordered a sustained series of missile strikes against Iraq forces in response to Saddam Hussein's continued defiance of U.N. weapons inspectors.

The Democrats loved it when Clinton tossed bombs at Hussein, which had little if any effect...And the Republicans stood by his decision to do so as well.

Amazingly, the Democrats couldn’t stand behind Bush when he decided to do what Clinton didn’t have the stomach for, but had to be done - removing Saddam from the world.

1991 - The U.N. General Assembly rescinded its 1975 resolution equating Zionism with racism by a vote of 111-to-25.

I’d imagine if this vote was retaken today, it would be much closer to the one in 1975 than in 1991.

1997 - A Pentagon-appointed panel concluded the Army, Navy and Air Force should segregate male and female recruits in their earliest phases of basic training.

Women do not belong in the military, and this is just one of the many reasons...That said, if women are going to be in the military they should not be segregated in basic training or anywhere else.

The military is an extremely complex unit which can’t function at its optimum unless it is completely integrated, and there should be no segregation based on sex, race, etc...Every troop (man or woman) must be 100% combat effective and completely integrated into the military system, or they shouldn’t be there.

National Defense should always supersede 'Social Engineering'...Unfortunately, Liberals in this country feel the opposite is true, and most Conservatives are afraid of being called sexists and refuse to take them on.

2006 - Iran's president said his country was ready to transfer nuclear technology to neighboring countries.

Amazingly, too many in the West assume Ahmadinejad was barking at the moon...You'd think the lessons of the 20th century would have wizened them up, but I guess not.

November 23

1932 - The Kingdoms of Nejd and Hejaz merged to become the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud.

God played a nasty trick on humanity placing so much of the world’s most valuable modern commodity (oil) smack dab in the middle of this Islamic cauldron…As a result, the Arab dirt-farmers have cheated their pathetic heritage and become major players on the world’s economic and political scene.

1863 - The Battle of Chattanooga began: One of the most decisive battles of the American Civil War.

This was the Confederacy’s last chance to turn the war. General Thomas led the Union Army of the Cumberland, and General Bragg led the Confederate Army of Tennessee.

The two generals played a huge role in the battle:  Thomas came up big, and Bragg performed at his usual below-average level.

The importance of this battle was it completely opened up the South to Union forces attacking from the West, which gave the Union Army the opportunity of reconquering much of the South before the 1864 General Election...Crazy as it may sound, it wasn’t a foregone conclusion Lincoln would be reelected - Battlefield victories were needed desperately.

1921 - President Harding signed the Willis Campbell Act, better known as the anti-beer bill, forbidding doctors from prescribing beer or liquor for medicinal purposes.

It must be remembered Prohibition was in effect during this time in order to understand the context of 'needing a prescription for beer.'

Even back then the junkies knew how to work the system by claiming it was for medical purposes...Like our current-day pot-heads.

1923 - German Army commander General Von Seeckt banned the NSDAP and KPD.

The NSDAP was the Nazi Party and the KPD the Communist Party...Unfortunately for the Wiemar Clowns, they had no power to enforce their useless ‘bans’ and Germany was soon turned into a land of anarchy, which turned into a Hell State in 1933.

1934 - The U.S. and Britain agreed on a 5-5-3 naval ratio, with both countries allowed to build five million tons of naval ships while mandating Japan could only build three. Japan denounced the treaty.

The Japanese 'denounced the treaty,' but all three cheated from the day it was announced.

1943 - U.S. forces seized control of the Tarawa and Makin atolls from the Japanese:  WWII.

Makin Atoll was the first Central Pacific island to be reconquered by the Allies, and Tarawa was a major Japanese stronghold.

1945 - U.S. wartime food rationing of meat, butter, and other foods, ended.

Can you imagine if we had to ration anything today? I can already see the ACLU claiming it is a violation of civil rights to force individuals to give up anything for the common good.

Just another of the many reason why we would have lost WWII if the current group of lawyering and media Leftists had been around in the 1940’s.

1992 - Iran added a Russian-built submarine to its navy, becoming the first Gulf nation to field a submarine.

Iranian Navy? Hahaha! What a joke...The fact this navy consists of leftover Soviet junk is even more funny.

Nice of the Ruskies to give them an underwater toy, however.

1993 - President Clinton offered "an apology to Native Hawaiians on behalf of the United States for the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii."

Bill is such a magnanimous guy...Ever heard of 'right of conquest' pal?

Hawaii is of immense strategic importance, but no one would expect Bubba to have a clue about National Defense.

1999 - Defense Secretary William Cohen called for a military-wide review of conduct after a Pentagon study said up to 75% of blacks and other ethnic minorities reported experiencing racially offensive behavior.

Having served in the Air Force, I can honestly say it was the least racist organization I’ve ever been part of...The military isn't utopia when it comes to race, but everyone is a co-equal according to their rank, regardless of race, creed, color, or gender, and is welcome and respected according to their ability.

If the rest of America could live up to this standard the country would be much better off...But this reality doesn't fit into Liberal myth, so the truth about the matter is rarely explained.

2006 - Scientists studying mice said they found what may be a master cardiac stem cell, able to change into the three major cell types in a mammal's heart, in a finding that could help guide heart repair in people.

This is amazing stuff, and the human mind seems almost capable of anything...For good or bad. Here's hoping more scientists keep to the 'Salk' model instead of the 'Mengelian' one.

What's also amazing is there are people who have a problem with scientists using mice to make findings like the one listed above, but have no problem using human fetuses...Such is humanity - and inhumanity.

November 7 (A Huge Day)

There are too many big events on this day to only highlight one...Therefore, each will be highlighted in blue
---------------------------

1793 - The French Revolution abolished Christianity in favor of 'Reason.'

"Those who cease to believe in God don't believe in nothing, they believe in anything." - G.K. Chesterton

This event is one of many separating the French Revolution from the American Revolution...America is a country created on the principles of  'liberty' and the values of Judeo-Christian moral standards; France (most of Western Europe) is a based on 'equality' and no moral standards.

It was one thing for the French to abandon Christianity, but it's another to claim they were heading towards 'reason.' If anything the French Revolution proved to be one of the most 'unreasonable' events in pre-WWII European history.

1811 - The Battle of Tippecanoe.

U.S. General William Henry Harrison defeated the Shawnee Indians, led by Tecumseh.

Tecumseh was a brilliant leader, and attempted to create Indian alliances to confront the oncoming U.S...But the Indians were never able to unite for a common cause, which is why the 'white man' was able to land in the New World and eventually dominate it.

Harrison used his popularity after this battle to propel himself to the presidency in the 1840 election...His campaign slogan was: 'Tippecanoe and Tyler Too' (John Tyler was his V.P.).

1874 - The Republican Party was first symbolized as an elephant in a cartoon drawn by Thomas Nast in Harper's Weekly magazine.

I've always wondered where this symbol came from, so here we go:

"Nast invented another famous symbol - the Republican elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled 'The Republican Vote.' That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party." - Fact Monster

1876 - The presidential election between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Tilden was so close there was no discernible winner.

I know some think the 2000 Election was the first close, contested, U.S. Presidential election, but that's only because the American Education Propagandameisters have done a good job brainwashing America's youth.

This election was as close as possible, and it's more than likely Tilden was cheated in Louisiana, which was stolen for Hayes...But it should be noted, Tilden cheated as well, which is why he eventually settled on a deal.

The Hayes-Tilden Compromise gave Hayes the Electoral College votes needed to win the election (by 1 vote), in exchange for agreeing to end the Federal presence in the South...Which finally put an end to the Civil War.

1900 - Heinrich Himmler, Head of the Nazi S.S. and organizer of the Nazi extermination camps was born.

The 'Chicken Farmer' is one of the most hideous people in world history, and his birth is only noted because this is one abortion the world could have done better by having.

1917 (October 25 on the old Russian Calendar) - The Bolsheviks under Vladimir Lenin overthrew the provisional government of Alexander Kerensky in Petrograd.

The Mensheviks feared Lenin more than anyone else, and their fears were realized...They knew him well, because the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks were originally united.

In the early 1900's, the Communist movement split in two because the majority of the group refused to allow Lenin to dominate it...As a result, Lenin was isolated but went on to win the battle of wits and gained the support of the Russian working-class.

Lenin also had an ace up his sleeve in the form of Leon Trotsky, who proved to be the second most important figure in the Russian Revolution, and the Russian Civil War which followed.

1944 - President Franklin Roosevelt was re-elected to a record fourth term.

I went over his re-election on November 6th, and ditto my statement here...#3 should never have happened - let alone #4.

1986 - The Simpson-Mazzoli Immigration Act was signed into law by President Reagan, permitting millions of illegal immigrants to remain in the country legally.

Reagan was a great president, and a hero of the Conservative movement, but this act was a horrible decision - with tremendous long-term repercussions.

1. It rewarded millions for breaking the law.

2. It encouraged millions more to break the law in the hope another president would recognize their legal status as well...Unfortunately, I'm afraid we are eventually heading this way again with who-knows-how-many more illegals.

2000 - The U.S. Presidential election ended with the count for the two primary candidates, Gore and Bush, being so close as to make the results a statistical tie.

This wasn't a Constitutional crisis, as many idiots called it, and it certainly wasn't the first contested election in U.S. history (see 1876 election, above)...It was a chance for the Constitution to prove itself.

The importance of the Constitution, of a free democracy in general, is to determine who will lead a nation, through the will of the people instead of with arms...Never forget the 'Clausewitz-Pero Corollary':

"War is the continuation of Politics by other means" - Clausewitz

"Politics is the continuation of War by other means" - Pero

The beauty of peaceful democracy is it solves the question of governance without bloodshed. Democracy is always messy, because it is war without warfare (political war)...Which is a far superior method to the only other alternative: War with warfare (civil war).

2004 - Iran and a European delegation of nations reached a preliminary agreement on Iran's nuclear program at talks hoped to avoid a U.N. showdown. The UK, France and Germany persuaded Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program.

They did??? Seems to me the Euro's accomplished nothing...Which is a little more than was expected of them.

November 4 (A Triple)

1979 - The Iran Hostage Crisis began when Iranian militants attacked the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. Some hostages were released a few weeks later, but 52 hostages were kept captive for 444 days.

President Jimmy Carter allowed American citizens to be held captive for 444 days!!!

Not only did he subject these Americans to such a horror, but in doing so he emboldened the Islamists. A fact which has carried a heavy price from then to today...Unfortunately, every president who followed Carter did little more to stop Islamic terror. Until, Dubya came along that is.

The Middle Eastern dirt-farmers understand one thing, and one thing only: They understand ass kickings!!! They understand a 'Strong horse'...
Everything else is a joke to them, and if we aren't the 'Strong Horse' giving the ass kickings, we will surely receive them.

Keep this in mind every time you hear our enemies say they long for Democrats to take control of the government. The reason is painfully obvious...As Obama proved.

That said, we need to remember there is a difference between militarily dominating the Middle East and politically/culturally doing so...There is no reason we can't be the dominant military power in the region, but we can never get them to be like us.  This was Bush's mistake; along with Obama.

Hopefully Trump learns this lesson.

1980 - Ronald Reagan was elected U.S. President, defeating Jimmy Carter.

THANK GOD!!! Jimmy Carter was the worst American president of the 20th Century, and Reagan proved to be one of the best.

It's ironic the Peanut Farmer took this electoral beating on the same date he allowed the Iranians to give him his worst beating.

Also, this election is important because it began the 'Conservative Period' in American History: 1980-2008.

2008 - Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.

Love him or hate him, there's no denying this accomplishment makes Obama the most important black man in U.S. history...Unfortunately, being black is the only thing he proved to be good at as president.

Also, this election ended the 'Conservative Period' in American History:  1980-2008.

*If you are paying attention to the 'Periods' listed above, you should note the 'Liberal Period' in American History was 1933-1968...1968-1980 was a 'Lost Period.'

644 - Umar of Arabia, second Caliph of Islam, was assassinated at Medina and succeeded as caliph by Uthman. On his deathbed Umar named a council to choose the next caliph. The council appointed Uthman.

I'm quite certain Umar wouldn't have named Uthman...Especially if he knew Uthman was the one who had him assassinated.

1791 - Miami Indian Chief Little Turtle led the powerful force of Miami, Wyandot, Iroquois, Shawnee, Delaware, Ojibwa and Potawatomi who inflicted the greatest defeat ever suffered by the U.S. Army at the hands of North American Indians. Some 623 regulars led by General Arthur St. Clair were killed and 258 wounded on the banks of the Wabash River near present day Fort Wayne, Indiana.

This was a crushing defeat for the new nation, and caused it to increase the size of its army significantly...These type of victories for the Indians soon became more and more rare, and the tables were turned in a grand way.

1798 - The U.S. Congress agreed to pay a yearly tribute to Tripoli, considering it the only way to protect U.S. shipping.

'Paying tribute' to pirates is despicable, and the U.S. didn't put up with it for long...You should be familiar with the famous line in the Marine Hymn: "From the Halls of Montezuma, To the Shores of Tripoli."

The second half of the line is from the ass kicking we eventually gave these pirates...Return to the top if you need a reminder why this is necessary.

1939 - The U.S. Neutrality Act repealed the arms embargo (Neutrality Act of August 31, 1935) and authorized 'cash and carry' exports of arms and munitions to belligerent powers:  WWII.

Gotta love a bill called a 'Neutrality Act' which declares an end to 'neutrality.'

FDR and Congress would have been much more honorable had they entered WWII in 1939 instead of agreeing to profit on the war...But then again, the words honor and politician rarely go together.

1956 - The Soviet Union crushed the Hungarian independence movement by sending tanks into Budapest.

The official Soviet explanation for entering Hungary:

"The Soviet troops have temporarily entered Budapest on request from the Revolutionary Workers and Peasants' Government, to give brotherly aid to the Hungarian people in their struggle to protect the fruits of their socialist efforts, to crush the counter-revolution, to avert the Fascist danger etc., etc."

In other words, the Soviets came in to 'liberate' Hungary from itself...In the Land of the Gulag anything was possible, and I'm sure they felt this was a true statement.

October 22

1962 - President Kennedy ordered U.S. air and naval troops to blockade Cuba, after discovering Soviet missiles on the island. He also demanded Russia dismantle the rocket sites.

Kennedy recognized the seriousness of the situation and ceased 'speaking softly,' threatening to wield his 'big stick.'

Thank God we didn't have a peacenick in office. I hope you realize JFK was a Democrat, but in no way was he a modern-day Liberal...That said, had Kennedy not completely misread Soviet intentions and led them to believe he was a light-weight in the first place, this whole event may have been avoided.

Needless to say, the Cold War almost got extremely HOT, but it was an order which had to be made.

1836 - Sam Houston was inaugurated as the first constitutionally elected President of the Republic of Texas.

It wasn't long before Texas entered the U.S, but it's important to realize Texas was an independent nation for a brief period.

1979 - Muhammad Reza Shah Pahlevi, deposed Shah of Iran, was allowed in the United States for medical treatment. This action led to the Iran hostage crisis.

Another great decision by Jimmy Carter.  He should have helped the Shah or not, but cutting both ways was stupid.

At least he didn't allow the Persians to keep our hostages very long...Doh!

1995 - The largest gathering of world leaders in history marked the 50th anniversary of the United Nations.

The ‘Ultimate Jerkoff’ at the Worlds Largest Circle Jerk Organization.

1997 - President Bill Clinton presented a modest strategy to combat global warming by gradually reducing greenhouse gases over the next two decades.

Wait a minute! There was global warming back in Clinton’s days? This has to be a mistake, because I thought it was all Bush’s fault...Hmmm?!?!

September 22 (A Special Double)

1951 - Jackie was born.

In my mind, this is one of the great people of all time, though her deeds and accomplishments are known by few...She is a strong, caring, wonderful woman, and one of my personal heroes.

I'm proud to call her MOM!!

1980 – The Iran-Iraq War began when Iraqi troops seized part of Iran in a border dispute.

This war is also called the First Persian Gulf War, and the Iranians call it the Imposed War...It was a brutal eight-year war, with 1-2 million casualties and no clear-cut victor.

The Persians (Iran) and Mesopotamians (Iraq) have been enemies since the dawn of civilization, have been involved in a 1,300-year religious chasm (Sunni vs. Shiite), and after WWII became Cold War pawns.

I hope you remember Saddam was our ‘ally’ during this time. Sometimes situations dictate that nations have strange-bedfellows, and this was one, with Iraq being the lesser of the two evils...Sort of like having Stalin as an ally against Hitler.

1692 - Two men and seven women were executed for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts.

These were the last witches hung in the 'Salem Witch hunts'...One of the victims wasn’t actually hanged. Giles Corey, was pressed to death for standing mute while the others were hung.

1792 – The French Republic was proclaimed.

It didn't last long, and it’s principles were a complete bastardization of the American Revolution and republic.

Needless to say, the French are on their 'Fifth Republic' - in less than 250 years.

1862 - President Abraham Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, proposing to free all slaves of rebel states as of Jan. 1, 1863.

This is one of the most famous declarations in U.S. history, and I encourage you to read the
Emancipation Proclamation...This is the first of two parts of the proclamation, with the second part being made on January 1, 1863 (it's more famous date).

That said, the Proclamation was more of a political tool, than a declaration of fact.

1. The Confederacy controlled the South, where Lincoln’s order carried no weight, and the Union troops were getting whipped around pretty regularly in the region.

2. Lincoln couldn’t and didn’t free a single slave. The 13th Amendment freed the slaves, and the 14th gave them equal protection (in theory).

The importance of the Emancipation Proclamation is it broadened the scope of the Civil War. Lincoln went to war to ‘save the Union,' but like all wars, the situation on the ground set the stage for new war aims and goals.

1911 - Cy Young won his 511th and final game.

Intelligent baseball fans know this is the one baseball record which will never be broken.

Do the math: 25 wins for 20 years = 500 wins...Even the best modern-day pitchers have a hard time winning 20 games per year, and no one’s going to do it for 20+ years.

The next closest to Young is Walter Johnson with 417 wins - no one else has won 400, and it's likely no one will...In the modern-era, Greg Maddox has the most with 355 wins.

Equally unlikely to be broken is Young's record for losses:  316...In history there have been others within reach of this mark, but it's highly unlikely a modern pitcher would be allowed to have a career long enough to get there.

1943 - Kate Smith's 13-hour radio appeal sold $39 million in war bonds.

Back in the good ol’ days when celebrities loved the U.S.A.

1950 - Omar N. Bradley was promoted to the rank of 5-star general.

'Brad' was the last 'General of the Army.'

Here’s hoping we never have another one, because in order to require such a supremely ranked general it will mean we are in another world war...But I’m quite certain this is nothing but wishful thinking.

1961 - President Kennedy signed the 'Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Offenses Control Act.'

What a joke...Per normal, the government simply created a new bureaucracy requiring a lot of money, which did very little.

Look outside your home and try to tell me I’m wrong...I'm pretty sure you'll see plenty of young punks running around. Even in the most affluent neighborhoods.

September 18

1850 - The U.S. Congress passed the second Fugitive Slave Bill, requiring the return of escaped slaves to their owners.

There were few Northerners willing to follow this law, and the South knew it...As a result the Fugitive Slave Act was simply another road to war.

Unfortunately, there's no way slavery would have ever ended through the law. It had to happen through war, because most of the economy of the South was based on slavery.

So much for the idiots who claim: "War is never the answer"...The reality is war is often the ONLY ANSWER!!!

1851 - The New York Times, founded by Henry Jarvis Raymond, was published for the first time. It was sold for two cents an issue.

There was a time when the 'Old Grey Lady' was the "paper of record," and supplied "all the news that's fit to print"...Unfortunately, those days are long gone, and the Times has become little more than a Leftist-rag.

1914 - General Paul von Hindenburg was named Commander in Chief of the German Armies on the Eastern Front:  WWI.

Hindenburg was a brilliant general, but he is much more famous for dying...As president of the German nation, he was the only one strong enough to keep Hitler from running amok. His death opened the door to Hell for the German people - and the world.

1922 - Adolph Hitler commented regarding the state of Germany after WWI: "It cannot be that two million Germans should have fallen in vain...No, we do not pardon, we demand - VENGEANCE!!"

"Vengeance" is exactly what the world got for disregarding the demonic tones of the 'Austrian corporal'...Sadly, the world continues to disregard such statements from its modern-day madmen.

1947 -The National Security Act was passed: It unified the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and made the U.S. Air Force a separate branch of the military.

WWII showed the flaws of having competing services, and also proved the Air Force needed to be independent of the Army...Unfortunately, the service rivalries haven't ended, but the force structure is much more flexible and effective than it ever could have been before this act.

1996 - The O.J. Simpson civil trial opened in Santa Monica, California.

This event is the biggest farce of my lifetime...I still don't know how it garnered such an enormous media following, or how the 'Juice' got away with murder.

2004 - The U.N. atomic watchdog agency demanded Iran suspend all uranium enrichment activities and set a November timetable for compliance.

U.N. watchdog agency [of any kind]? What a colossal joke.

September 15

1940 - During the Battle of Britain, the tide turned when the Luftwaffe sustained heavy losses inflicted by the Royal Air Force:  WWII.

It's hard to believe Hitler didn't fire the ‘Fat Field Marshal’ for this disaster - or follow the normal Nazi practice of killing him...Thankfully, Hitler not only let him live, but Goering continued in his position as C-in-C of the Luftwaffe through the end of the war.

Of all Hitler’s Henchmen none were quite as pathetic and incompetent as Goering, who had a large role in Germany’s three worst debacles of the war: The Dunkirk Escape, the Battle of Britain and the Battle of Stalingrad...Goering was given the honor of staring in all three, and in each case he failed epically.

1916 - Military tanks were first sent into action as part of the Allied offensive at the Battle of the Somme:  WWI.

Trench warfare was the routine method of battle in WWI, but the advent and use of tanks and planes put an end to this useless tactic in all future wars.

1917 - Russia was proclaimed a republic by Alexander Kerensky, head of the provisional government.

Who knows how Russian history would have been if the Mensheviks kept the Bolsheviks out of power...It would have likely been a different kind of Communism, but the end result likely would have been similar: The destruction of the human spirit.

1935 - The Nuremberg Laws deprived German Jews of their citizenship and made the swastika the official symbol of Nazi Germany.

Less than two years in charge and Hitler was already following through with his promises...Had the rest of the world taken him serious from the start, they could have averted disaster.

Instead the rest of the world shoved their heads further up their asses, and hoped for the best.

1937 - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain flew to Germany to discuss the future of Czechoslovakia with Adolf Hitler.

Chamberlain was the #1 'head shover,' but at least he was about to provide “peace in our time"...Great.

1942 - Armies of Nazi Germany began their siege of the Russian city of Stalingrad:  WWII.

Speaking of Stalingrad (see above)...Open fighting ended in the battle, and the Germans were on the siege offensive from here till the Soviet breakout.

This is where Goering came into play. He promised Hitler he’d be able to supply the German troops from the sky, since there was no way the Wehrmacht could keep such an impossible logistics train...Goering was wrong, again, and instead of becoming a great victory, Stalingrad became a kessel (cauldron) for Field Marshall von Paulus and his 800,000 man 6th Army.

1994 - In a terse ultimatum from the Oval Office, President Bill Clinton told Haiti's military leaders: "Your time is up. Leave now or we will force you from power."

Check out Bubba threatening that great power - Haiti.

Question: How did Haiti threaten the U.S.? This is the question Liberals ask when Republican presidents use the military.

Oh, I forgot: Military operations with (D) behind them = Good...Military operations with (R) behind them = Bad.

1995 - The U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women approved a wide-ranging platform on women's rights, including the promotion of inheritance rights and the condemnation of wartime rape.

Wow! The U.N. had the brilliance to 'condemn' wartime rape....Such genius coming out of the ‘Circle Jerk Group’ is truly awe-inspiring.

So, what have they been doing to actually protect women since this time? Nada!!

1997 - Vice President Al Gore and Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman reported over 30 million Americans (1 in 7) were suffering from hunger.

What a crock of crap.

Look around you. Look anywhere in this country...There are surely some people who are ‘hungry,’ but there is no way it is anywhere near 14% of Americans. This was just a boldfaced lie.

It’s even more laughable when you combine this 'report' with those coming out stating over 20% of the population is ‘obese'...Bunch of jokers. If they ever lose their jobs, they should go looking for work at the U.N. where they love this kind of garbage.

2005 - Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran is willing to provide nuclear technology to other Muslim states. Hours later, European nations renewed an offer of economic incentives if the Mideast nation would halt its uranium enrichment.

Let me get this straight, Iran acts poorly and the West offers to give it money? Sadly, that sounds about right.

2005 - North Korea said it wouldn't give up its nuclear weapons without receiving a reactor for generating power, stalling six-nation talks on Pyongyang's atomic programs.

It works for Iran, so why shouldn't North Korea give it a shot as well?

And now they are testing hydrogen bombs and ICBMs...Nice!!

August 6

1945 (8:15 EDT) - The United States dropped an atomic bomb (named 'Little Boy') on Hiroshima, Japan, killing an estimated 140,000 people in the first use of a nuclear weapon in warfare.

Poor Japan...Not!

"WAR IS ALL HELL" - Gen. William T. Sherman

Japan brought war to the U.S., so the U.S. brought Hell to Japan.

Let’s review a few FACTS:

1. The Japanese began the war, not the U.S...In fact, Japan started the entire World War in 1937 when it invaded China.

2. The Japanese were beaten and asked to surrender many times, but refused to do so.

3. If the U.S. had invaded Japan, instead of forcing them to surrender with the atom bombs, the death and destruction of the Japanese people and homeland would have been many, many times worse than that caused by the A-bombs.

4. If we hadn’t dropped the bombs, the Soviets were on the march to join the battle, and would have destroyed the Japanese in the north. As a result, Japan would have been split up like Germany, and later Korea.

5. If the war hadn’t ended with this quick-hit, the Japanese may have finished their plans to drop dirty-bombs on the West Coast of the U.S. (make sure you check back on Sept. 22).

6. The race for nuclear weapons was already on...The Germans and Japanese would have gotten there eventually had the Allies not destroyed their war making capability - the Soviets were already collecting German scientists to get theirs. The U.S. dropping atom bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki didn't start an arms race. An arms race had been on for decades - actually for all of human history.

So please, don’t buy into Liberal BS and revisionist writing of history. Dropping the atomic bombs on Japan saved lives (MILLIONS OF LIVES), as well as Japanese culture, and was the absolute proper thing to do.

258 – Bishop of Rome Sixtus II was beheaded while celebrating services in a cemetery.

The Roman world was a dangerous place to be a Christian during this time, and remained so until Constantine became emperor.

1787 - The Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia began to debate the articles contained in a draft of the United States Constitution.

This group of men created one of the most important non-religious documents in the history of the world...Lucky for our young nation, we had the right men in the right place at the right time.

Will we always be so lucky?  It seems like our luck ran out decades ago.

1806 - The Holy Roman Empire ended when Francis II renounced the crown and became Francis I, Emperor of Austria.

This is an understatement, because it should say the HRE was forcefully dissolved by Napoleon.

FYI:  Most are familiar with the '3rd Reich' = Nazi Germany...The HRE was the '1st Reich' and Imperial Germany (1871-1918) was the '2nd Reich.'

1890 - Convicted murderer William Kemmler became the first person to be executed in the electric chair when he was put to death at Auburn State Prison in New York.

Ol’ Sparky was de-virginized...I wish he was used as often as a cheap whore.

1918 - The Second Battle of the Marne ended:  WWI.

The Marne was one of WWI’s major battles, with almost 300,000 casualties between the two sides...The major importance of the battle is it was the last large-scale German attack on the Western Front.

1942 - Queen Wilhemina of the Netherlands became the first reigning queen to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress, telling lawmakers despite Nazi occupation, her people's motto remained, "No surrender.":  WWII.

She should have stayed in Holland and died fighting instead of running away, leaving her people to be butchered by the Nazi dogs...But that’s not the European way.

1944 - The Nazis began the deportation of 70,000 Jews to Auschwitz, from Lodz, Poland:  WWII.

Another big day for the Nazi butchers...But only for the butchers, because I’m sure the Wehrmacht and German people didn’t know anything about it. Riiiiiiight.

1994 - In Wedowee, Alabama, an apparent arson fire destroyed Randolph County High Schools, which had been the focus of tensions over the principle's stand against interracial dating.

We all know the song: “Sweet home Alabama...In Birmingham they love the Governor"...Referencing Governor Wallace, a first class racist - lets not forget he was a Democrat by the way.

2005 - Iran rejected Europe's proposal for ending the standoff over Teheran's nuclear program, saying it was "unacceptable" because it did not give the country the right to enrich uranium.

Ten years later the shell game came to an end...Not with the Iranians forgoing a nuclear program, but with the West trying to stop them.

The Iranians may have put off getting a nuclear weapon (for 10 years - hahaha), but they have not dropped the idea...Our leaders simply kicked the can down the road to our children - like every other problem we have.

2006 - Iran's top nuclear negotiator said Iran would expand uranium enrichment, in defiance of a U.N. Security Council resolution giving the Islamic Republic until Aug. 31 to halt the activity or face the threat of political and economic sanctions.

Of course Iran did...And will continue to do so until it either has its weapon or has its production facilities destroyed by someone with some serious testicular fortitude.

July 31

1917 - The Third battle of Ypres began (ended November 10):  WWI.

This battle is properly known as the Battle of Passchendalele, and is one of the major battles of World War I, with over 700,000 casualties between the two sides...Ypres was also the last great trench warfare battle in history.

"...I died in Hell (they called it Passchendaele) my wound was slight and I was hobbling back; and then a shell burst slick upon the duckboards; so I fell into the bottomless mud, and lost the light." - Siegfried Sassoon

1291 - Egyptian Mamelukes conquered Beirut, ending the European presence in Palestine and Syria.

It was only a matter of time before the Muslims conquered the area...This should also be seen as an end of relative peace in the region as well, because Muslims have been more brutal on each other than the Christians ever were.

1777 - The Marquis de Lafayette, a 19-year-old French nobleman, was made a major-general in the American Continental Army:  American Revolutionary War.

Lafayette is one of only six people to be given the title of 'honorary citizen of the U.S,' and played a huge role in the victory of the Colonials over the Brits...His role was as an adviser to Washington, but more important was his influence on the French to join the battle against the Brits.

A quote from the Continental Congress: "that his services be accepted, and that, in consideration of his zeal, illustrious family and connexions, he have the rank and commission of major-general of the United States."

1919 - Germany's Wiemar Constitution was adopted.

The Germans couldn't have devised a worse system to succeed the Kaiser, and created a paper-tiger for a government in a nation in desperate need of strong leadership...Unfortunately, a strong leader is exactly what they eventually got. It took 14-years, but he surely arrived.

1932 - German Election: Nazis received 37.3% of the vote.

THIS IS WHAT THE WIEMAR CONSTITUTION CREATED!!!

Hitler and the Nazi's received just over 1/3 of the vote in 1932, but took over the nation in 1933...Huh!!

A stupid system, with the perfect conditions for a takeover, and a brilliant (though demented) politician to perform the taking.

And never forget, Der Fuhrer and his maniacal followers were ELECTED!!!! Voting matters, but democracies aren't the most important factor in a peaceful nation - freedom and liberty are.

1987 - Iranian pilgrims and riot police clashed in Mecca, resulting in some 400 deaths, according to the Saudi government which blamed Iranians for the violence.

Go back to my comment from the 1291 event above.

1994 - The U.N. Security Council authorized member states to use "all necessary means" to oust the military leadership in Haiti.

Question: Why on Earth would the U.N. 'authorize' the Haitian leadership to be removed, but not Saddam in Iraq? Nor the dozens of equally brutal regimes on the planet?  Hmmmm...Could it be many of the nations on the Security Council had no financial interests in Haiti, but definitely did in Iraq and elsewhere? Of course that's why.

1996 - The White House won agreement with key Republican lawmakers on a package of anti-terrorism measures.

I thought Muslims loved the U.S. when Bill Clinton was in office?? Come on now, the Muslim world only hated George W. Bush.

Seriously, the media and Leftist Dems have been telling us this since 9/11/11...So it must be true.

Oh, and they loved Obama, too...And hate Trump, too.

It must be true.

2006 - The U.N. passed Resolution 1696, demanding that Iran suspend uranium enrichment by the end of August.

What a sad joke...Both the resolution and the U.N., that is.

1997 - In Brooklyn, New York, police seized five bombs believed bound for terrorist attacks on New York City subways.

Go back to my comment from the 1996 event above.

July 23

1532 - A Turkish invasion forced Holy Roman Emperor Charles V to agree to peace with his Protestant enemies.

The role of the Turks in the success of the Protestant Reformation isn’t given enough credit for the success of the Reformation...If Charles didn’t have to fight constant battles with the Ottomans - guarding his eastern flank - it is much less likely he would have been outmaneuvered (politically, economically, and militarily) by his European enemies.

1914 - Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia following the killing of Archduke Francis Ferdinand by a Serb assassin.

The tinder-box was about to blow and the world soon witnessed the greatest war to that time.

1979 - Ayatollah Ruhallah Khomeini, who overthrew the Shah of Iran and made the country a theocracy, laid down the law on music. He said, "Music is no different from opium. Music affects the human mind in a way that makes people think of nothing but music and sensual matters."

What a bizarre edict, but nothing out of the norm for this bizarre man. Plus, it was almost directly from the Koran itself.

Unfortunately, Khomeini's importance on the Islamist movement is huge, and the world is paying dearly for allowing such a man - and ideology - to take power in Iran.

1990 - President GHW Bush announced his choice of Judge David Souter of New Hampshire to succeed retiring Justice William J. Brennan on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ugh!!! Bush had good intentions, but Souter turned out to be one of the most Liberal voices on the Supreme Court...Which is why it's important to remember the Rule of Good Intentions:  'The Road to Hell is Paved With Good Intentions.'

1098 - The Fall of Antioch: Christian Crusaders of the First Crusade seized Antioch, in modern day Turkey.

At the time this looked like a great victory for the Crusaders, but it didn’t take long to realize it was an untenable situation - a costly and deadly proposition to even try...That said, the Crusades may have been a tactical debacle, but they were an absolute strategic victory, because they helped keep the Muslim Horde at bay, keeping them from conquering Central and Western Europe.

The Crusades were also important as an impetus towards dragging Europe out of the Dark Ages, by bringing the 'ancient knowledge' the Muslim world kept after the fall of Rome and returning it to Europe...As such, the Crusades were an important factor in the start of the Renaissance 200 years later.

1938 - The German Reich ordered the confiscation of 'degenerate art.'

And the top Nazi 'degenerate' made sure all of the art found its way to his personal treasure chest. Of course that degenerate was the 'Fat-Ass Reichsmarshal': Hermann Goering.

1989 - Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, died.

Good riddance to dead dictators!!! Especially the Lenin of the Middle East.

May 24

1844 - Samuel F.B. Morse transmitted the message, "What hath God wrought!" from Washington to Baltimore as he formally opened America's first telegraph line.

The world shrank greatly with this simple sentence...Anytime information transfer is sped up the world gets smaller, and Morse set off a shrinking which brought the knowledge of the world within a fingertip's reach 150-years later.

1337 - French King Philip VI announced the confiscation of Gascony from England.

This event provided the spark which started the Hundred Year's War.

Those wondering what claim the English had to any part of France must remember William the Conqueror was a Norman prince and as such ruled both Normandy and England...The English kings who succeeded William kept the claim to Normandy (and other parts of France), which was unacceptable to the French and ultimately untenable for the English monarchs.

1543 - Nicolaus Copernicus published 'De Revolutionibus':  His theory of a sun-centered solar system.

Amazingly, he was pretty close to correct, but wasn’t acknowledged as so in his lifetime - or anywhere near his lifetime...Sadly, he died shortly after this publication.

1607 - Captain Christopher Newport and 105 followers founded the colony of Jamestown at the mouth of the James River on the coast of Virginia. They left England with 144 members - 39 died on the trip across the Atlantic.

The English previously attempted other colonies, but Jamestown was the first permanent English colony in the New World to survive.

1764 - Boston lawyer James Otis denounced "taxation without representation" and called for the colonies to unite in demonstrating their opposition to Britain’s new tax measures.

A battle-cry was born, and the Colonials were awakening to an impossible-possibility:  Overthrowing the world's superpower of the time - Great Britain.

Sadly, Americans have found 'taxation with representation' isn't much better - except those who are sucking from the taxpayer teat, that is.  They love taxation, and demand more; ever more for their never ending 'rights' to freebies.

1965 - A federal law authorizing the postal interception of communist propaganda was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Huh?? You ask why? The Liberal Court didn’t want their, and their friends, mail 'intercepted'...That's my take on the ruling, anyway.

1980 - Iran rejected a call by the World Court to release the American hostages.

Instead of razing Tehran, or at least sending a surgical strike to kill many Iranian leaders, our pansy leader (Jimmy Carter) sat on his thumbs and allowed the Ayatollah to continue his game...A game the current mullahs play to this day - a much more deadly game with nuclear power.

1990 - Two members of the militant environmental group Earth First! were injured when a pipe bomb exploded in their car in Oakland, California.

It's terrible these people were injured...Would have been better if they had died.

2001 - Vermont Senator James Jeffords quit the Republican Party and became an Independent, giving Democrats control of the Senate.

Congratulations to the (D)’s...They controlled the Senate for a whole year before it was reclaimed by the (R)’s.

2002 - The Moscow Treaty:  U.S. President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a nuclear arms reduction treaty which called for each nation to reduce their deployed strategic nuclear warheads to no more than 2,200 (from 6000) within 10-years. However, at Bush's insistence, the removed warheads may be put in storage instead of destroyed.

I seriously doubt either party lived up the terms of this deal.
